Success stories |
| Sheba |
I know I said I would send through photos, just getting them both to stop for a moment.
This is the only one I have got recently, Sheba asleep in her nest beside my bed.
Sheba and Gypsy are getting along like they have always been together. Sheba is really fitting in well. She is smart, affectionate and so willing to please. She is also becoming very vocal, talking, when I get home and on the week ends. They always learn how to tell the time. We have found toys that they can share and there are always a few extra around if one decides not to.
Every night after "tucker" its play time in the lounge, we all get into it, messy but fun. We are all happy Sheba cam to live with us. She even went in the river the other day, I'm waiting to see what she is like when it is warm
.
Kind regards Robert

| Merlin |
I adopted "Merlo" (who I have re-named Merlin) at easter this year. He has settled into his new home very well and loved nothing more than lazing in front of the heater. That is after a big day throwing his toy mouse around, jumping all over his scratching posts and racing me to the kitchen in the hope of being fed! He learned very quickly to come when I whistle. He is just a beautiful cat. Here are some photos.

Thankyou for keeping him so I could find him and give him a home!

| Bobby and Eva |
I am excited to let you know the adoption of Bobby and Eva to my home has been delightful. They took about 4 days to settle in to the surrounds of my home and garden and with my senior dog Max. However they are now definelty feeling like part of the family now.
They have become wonderful companions to all of us and we feel so blessed to have them in our lives. They have come to us after the loss of Bear our beautiful Labrador who we adopted from RSPCA 4 years ago.
They have become the new mates we were all looking to fullfill our broken hearts after the loss of Bear.
When we came to the shelter it was purely to see what was available in puppies/dogs. We were not looking to actually adopt on the day we were just seeing how our hearts felt on the day and if we were ready to adopt in the near future.

Then we came across two dogs Bobby and Eva my mother fell in love with Eva the black lab x and I was drawn to Bobby the staffy x so as the dog was going to be for my mother who lives with me, we enquired about Eva. Only to be told they were to be adopted together as they were surrendered together as friends and playmates. My mother was not sure about having 2 dogs, however as we live on 3 acres I couldnt see an issue with this. And as we live on 3 acres as a dual occupancy there were going to be in total of 5 family members to love and play with. So I asked a volunteer to please let us mingle with both of them and see how they are and if they liked us. So we were given a fenced off area to sit with the dogs and mingle, this turned into a joyous union of kisses and cuddles from both dogs to all of us. It was just so beautiful. I looked over to my mother and she was crying, when I asked why? She said her heart melted and she fell in love with both Bobby and Eva, and she was shocked at just how quick her heart began to heal from the grief of Bear. So we decided lets get both as there was noway in the world could you ever seperate them.

So now they live with us they have an older dog Max to teach them new ways and they have Nana, My husband, myself and two older boys 19 and 16 years of age to play with. We all love them so much, they are inside dogs and live either on the couch or sometimes at my feet inside my bed during the early hours of the morning for warmth. They are now becoming protective of the home and us and let us know when someone arrives by way of a bark. Bobby is extremley cuddly and loves to sit on your lap and Eva actually has starting talking and can say hello!! Its the most funniest thing. They run and explore the 3 acres and are puzzled by the large animals that live next door (horses).
They love a car ride and are so well behaved. We know they are lucky in gaining a forever home together but really we consider ourselves the lucky ones in having such loving and beautiful animals in our lives who really all they want is a pat but they give us so much more than we can give them.

Thank you very very much for a valuable service that you provide at the shelter and all your help in letting us be so lucky in the adoption of Bobby and Eva.
Kind Regards
Rae, Raymond, Sandra, Jamie, Nathan, Max, Bobby and Eva |

Here they are, a few photos of Basil (formerly Cheezel), and more will be coming. He is very happy.

He is very good at fetching things now.

| Bella |
I just wanted to thank you again for letting me know about Bella a couple of months ago.

Bella is the most gorgeous and loving dog I have ever had. She fit in straight away and I had no problems with her getting along really well with my cat Black Jack as you will see with one of my photos that I have attached.

I really appreciate you taking the time to match Bella with the sort of dog that I was after - you were spot on. She is perfect in every way. She has not only bought joy and love to my life, but my parents also love her to pieces as well when they come to visit.

Thanks again. Cheers, Jo

| Missy |
I adopted Missy ( formally known as Kimba ) from the AAPS March of last year. She has settled in beautifully with our existing pets, especially Sparky our german shepherd. She is a very loving softly spoken cat, she loves to go outside, but spends most of her time inside on her special little mat on the Pool Table. Each night she sits on my lap and lays on her back trying to lick my hand at the same time I am trying to scratch under her chin. After a while she gets a little bit forceful about licking my hand and grabs my hand with both paws and sinks the claws in. Ouch ! I think she likes to lick everyone’s hand before they pat her, I think in her mind her energy is better spent licking our hand than her paws, hoping for the same cleaning affect.

My cats are spoiled for choice at meal time, ranging from tuna in spring water to mince steak and chicken breast. So needless to say Missy has put on a little weight, my husband refers to her as a white wombat.
She is a beautiful sweet cat and is a loved member of the family.

Also, if you ever need anyone to volunteer assistance with cats and kittens, let me know. I could offer a day a week (either a Monday, Thursday, Friday and the occasional weekend day). I am quite happy to assist people with adoption, or just play and pat them (I don’t mind cleaning toilet trays either). Cindi |

Luca |
Just wanted to let you that Luca has settled in well to her new home. She
has a new brother Bravo and he and she get on very well together. Luca
loves her walks and she and Bravo love nothing better than walking together.
Luca is a very patient and well mannered girl and will sit quietly while her
dinner is being prepared. She has no problems with sharing her food or her
toys with Bravo. She has put on weight as she was very skinny when she
arrived at her new home. She also loves riding in the car.
Thank you for
our darling girl who we could not live without.
Yours truly Neil and Rosemary |
| Morris |

My husband and I adopted Morris (previously Miko) and Jerry from the AAPS back in January 2006. It's 3.5yrs on and they are so much a part of our family. We just love them to bits. They are both in excellent health and very fat, having biscuits on demand! haha... They love nothing more than a roll on the concrete, a sleep on the couch (on their very own blankets) or a play in the garden. Everyone knows they are our cats and they own the court where we live, often going from house to house making sure everything is 'in order'. They each have their quirkey habits, Morris bangs himself at the screen door so that we let him inside....whilst Jerry is a 'howler' he lets us know exactly what he wants all the time!

These two cats compliment our lives so much and we want to thank everyone at the AAPS for all the hard work you do in rehoming the animals at the shelter. Our cats were adults when we got them and we want everyone to know that adult cats are just as good as kittens!! All they need is time to fit in and then it will be hard to imagine life without them, just as we do with ours! Until next time.....from Ros, Jack, Morris
and Jerry (the wondercats!!)"

| Marley |
Just wanting to give you an update on the Staffy x that we adopted last week ( who was tag 29202) but has recently been renamed Marley.

Marley has settled in beautifully to our home, she did come home with us with kennel cough, however with a little TLC Marley has nearly fully recovered ( she isn’t too keen on her medicine though J).

Marley is always so excited when we come home from work, very eager to be let in to have a huge cuddle from the both of us. We are unable to walk her yet ( due to the kennel cough) but we are making sure she gets a good run in the backyard. No doubt Marley will be just as excited to be walked as we will be once she is well enough.

| Jake |
I saw the success stories page and though I might send you some pics and let you know how Jake is doing. We got Jake from you about 1 and a half years ago. He's has just been fantastic.

He is gentle and very affectionate. My parents also adopted Stella from you. She is the staffy cross on one of the pictures. They have been best friends since the day they met. Thank you so much for taking him in.

All the best Anthony and Voula

| Madeleine |
Here are some pictures of Madeleine, formerly Ella, in her first two weeks with us. She settled in quick-smart, this one - the picture of her on the sheepskin rug is from her first day here. The second shows her in one of the few places she's not allowed to be: on the shelf with various teddy bears and toy cats! The third shows her helping my mother do some mending. Maddie's into everything, a real sticky-beak, but her first and overwhelming interest is in guarding the pantry. One never knows if someone might come along and STEAL it, and all her food with it. A girl can't be too vigilant!
Mads is showing more signs of bonding as the days pass. She's not wild about being cuddled - doesn't protest, and might even purr a bit, but doesn't get all excited about it. She doesn't do laps, at least not yet. But she does like head-butting, especially up on the kitchen bench, and winding around legs. It's probably pure cupboard love but it's progress! She's also taken to talking more, little squeaks or trills, which is a pleasure. All our cats have been talkers ... some of them non-stop.

Her routine includes having at least one 'mad' per day - after breakfast or dinner, she'll go rocketing around the lounge, fling herself on the scratching post, roll around, bounce off the walls, gallop up and down the hall, and then when she's worked herself up enough, go and let it all out in the kitty litter. Our late Hadji used to do the same thing as a youngster. We call it dumping solid rocket fuel.

Mads and Fribbie (Freya) mostly ignore each other, as yet. There's been the odd bit of unladylike language, but no more.
Maddie's a delightful little girl. She's a character, and master of the "you've gotta be kidding me" sidelong glance. We're very happy to have her living here - at least, Mum and I am. I don't think I'll venture Fribbie's opinion!

| Barney Bunny |
We adopted Barney Bunny (white and fawn) earlier this year.
We later found out is name was George on his shelter-birth certificate, but he responds to Barney better.
Barney was adopted as a boyfriend for our lonely 5 month old , Babs Bunny.
They had a few bunny dates inside the house, and got to know each other.
They have now been 'going steady' for around 7 months! Barney loves bananas and digging where he should'nt ,his favourite spot is the big pile of hay.
Babs was very wild and untamable when we found her, but has relaxed alot since Barney has been around, and now Barney has become the naughty one!

Barney is a little dopey sometimes, but likes to speed around the backyard chasing pigeons and cats.
At night, they live in a big ,warm hutch and even have a music box when its time for bed.

We are so glad that Leigh found us such a good match for Babs Bunny, and hope that one day we can adopt more bunnies, even though they are very cheeky trying to get them to bed!
We love our buns and hope all the un-homed ones get a family asap.

| Rex |

Just thought you might like to know that Rex (remember the Jack Russell with the wonky legs?) has settled in very well, as you can see in the attached photos. He and our other dog Lily had a few arguments in the first week but they have sorted themselves out now and play well together. He has also decided that he likes to wear a coat!

All the best from the Barbers

| Emma |
Emma has really settled into our family. She bosses the big black lab Jet around nipping his heels and rounding him up at the park. I took her to my country property and she never left my side walking around without a leash which was great.
We cuddle in bed in the morning and she has bonded with Jet and is nervous when he recently went away with my son on a boys weekend.

Thankyou for the good match.

| Nugget |
I adopted the gorgeous Nugget. I wanted to let you know that he has settled in really well and is absolutely beautiful. He is such a happy, affectionate dog that I can’t remember life without him!! I wanted to thank you because you really did match the perfect pooch to this owner.
When I first brought him home, he was so quiet and shy. He didn’t know how to play at all and was quite content going for his walks and then sitting on my lap, eating and sleeping! He didn’t seem to like other dogs at all, which I was really worried about. I’ve just come home from a 2 week trip and my sister house and dog-sat for me while I was away. She has a puppy who obviously stayed as well! When I left, I was quite concerned about how Nugget would get along with her. Now that I’m home, I’m worried about how he will be without her!! They have really bonded and it has made me think seriously about getting him a playmate. She has also taught Nugget how to play and it is so cute to watch.

| Nathan |
Nathan has settled in really well, with hardly any disruption to our other animals or usual routine. He seems to have learnt his housetraining really quickly: we make sure to take him outside first thing in the morning, after meals and last thing in the evening, and we've only had 2 accidents (which happened early on). In fact, I think he already understands what is required because this morning he went straight to his little patch and then back to the door, because he wanted to go back inside (very cute).

Peter and I both think he is a really lovely little dog. He doesn't choose to sit on any of the pillows we have for the other animals, so I bought him his own pillow which he loves, and sits on that all the time. Yesterday it was sunny up here at lunchtime so we sat outside for a while and Nathan had fun chasing flies (very funny). Later in the day he met the neighbour's dogs (2 west highland whites), and the 4 of them had fun running around the backyard. He's still a quiet soul but his individual personality is becoming more evident, and in the mornings he is so excited to see us, which we both find really cute. He doesn't like to sleep on the bed (or on the couches actually), so I put his bed on the floor next to our bed, and he is very happy to sleep there. I take him for a walk each day with Millie and he is very well behaved. Yesterday we walked via the oval and saw quite a few other dogs being walked, which interested him and he was very calm and easy to control (he doesn't pull as much as Millie does!). He's getting along well with Millie, although I think he is sometimes a bit intimidated by her forwardness, but I think she really likes him (other than at feeding time, when I make sure to keep them a bit apart. ). He really is a very well behaved little dog, and I am very much attached to him already.

I want to thank you again for your help, but also your compassion in dealing with us. It seems to me that you do an excellent job in quite difficult circumstances. In particular, I find your website quite exceptional: the profiles of the animals are quite individualised, and give a real impression of their personality. It seems that you put a lot of effort into letting people know what the animals are like and finding the right home, and whoever writes the profiles is articulate and talented.
All the best, Julie

| Liaka |

My wife Anna and I adopted a beautiful German shepherd there in Feb 2008. We call her Liaka (lu lu).

She was a scared little girl but now is full of bravado and we love her very much.
We took her to the shelter yesterday and she bounced all over the place.
She has become a full fledged member of our home
Loves her walks, drives and our daughter as you can see in the pics\\regards.

| Jamie |
Just thought you would like to see a picture of Jessie (now Jamie) in her new home - well settled in! Toby, our golden retriever, was very lonely after the death of his friend Freddie and is so happy to have a new friend. They are inseparable and Jamie has proved to be very easy to train and really affectionate. Many thanks, Chris

| Cornelius |
Just wanted to share some photos with you of Cornelius enjoying his new home. Its been almost 1.5 months since he came into our lives, and every day has been perfect, it feels like he has been apart of our family for years.

He is a very cheeky and playful cat who has a passion for water and takes every opportunity to jump into the shower! I hope you like the photos as much as we do.

Kind Regards, Jason & Victoria & of course Cornelius.

| Marley |
We just wanted to let you know that our special kitten named Marley has settled in very well. We adopted him in May of this year and he is now about 7 months old.
Marley gets lots of cuddles, pats and attention every day. He adores our dog Saskia who is 16 years old. They snuggle up together and also enjoy the odd play fight.
Marley has a big appetite and gets quite noisy at meal times. He has also taken over the couch and the children’s bean bag.
Thank you for our special new family member!
Kind regards,
The Graham family

| Zac |
We adopted Zac, a Chihuahua x mini foxie from the Keysborough Animal Shelter in 2003. We brought him home to Brisbane and got him a brother, a seven week old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. Life has been good for Zac in Brisbane. He had a minor opporation on one of his knees in 2005 and has never looked back.
We have had many trips to Melbourne on holidays as Aunty Annette lives there with her two rescue dogs Punky and Max.
Now from Zac.

My Dad had been out of work for 4 months so he had to look further a field to get work and he has recently taken up a position in Malaysia. So we had to pack up and move and on the 31st July we went on a long flight, 8 hours but we slept most of the way as it was overnight.
We were very anxious for our Mum and Dad to come and get us from the Animal Hotel at Kuala Lumpur International Kargo. We were even more excited when we arrived at our new home. The smells and sounds were very different than those of home in Brisbane but we realised that there is a postman just the same comes each day on his bike to deliver the post so we have to go out and see if he has left any letters.
Each day Mum and sometimes Dad when he is not working takes us for a walk along the lake near our house and it is very hot here all the time so after our walks we are very tired and just want to stay indoors in the air conditioning. Most days it rains in the afternoon and it helps to clear the air.
We are so happy to be here with our Mum and Dad and happy to be having this great adventure. Mum tells us that we will be having visitors soon so we will have to wait and see who comes.

Bye for now and woof!!!
Zac and Bronte,
June and Kevin, Malaysia

| Ruby |
Ruby was adopted by Maya and Mathew.
She has settled in beautifully with her two new friends Scout the beagle and Jett the Staffy.

She loves her runs on the beach or Patterson River bike path each day.
She is a very elegant and proud lady; at 7 years she is still very playful much to the delight of her new canine companions.

| Elly |
Just wanted to let you know Elly very quickly settled into her new home with her new friend Bo. They get on very well and have lots of fun running around together, helping to feed the donkeys and watching all the wildlife and animals through the fences during the day. Then it's off to their comfy beds for lots of naps not too far from the fire place when its cold.

Elly is a very affectionate loveable dog and likes lots of attention, big hugs and walks with Bo. Bo was very sad sometimes as a few months ago he lost his dog friend he spent the last 10 yrs with. Now he is jumping with joy and happy to do all the daily things we do around here. We love Elly heaps and she has someone near her all the time so she is very pleased and contented and ready to go everywhere we go.

We are very appreciative of your great work and thank you again for Elly.

| Naboo |
I would like to give you an update on Naboo (formally Zula) our 5mo Kitten. When I first saw him it was love at first site! The first night we brought him home he started developing the cat flu, so the poor thing was sneezing everywhere. As much as he hated medicine time I think he began to realise we were trying to help him get better. Well, once the flu had passed he became a very playful kitten! He has settled in quite well, running up and down the hallway and chasing his favourite toy (which we have to get him a 3rd one as he can be a bit rough when he plays). It has been nearly a month and he is the best kitten I know. I’ve been very pleased to see him scratch his scratching post rather than my couch.

It’s rather cute as he has a little face and has a big body. He’s going to be a big boy when he grows up. Thank you for looking after him before I was able to give him a loving home.

Kindest Regards, Larissa

|
| Marley |
Our daughter didn't like the name Simon and she choose the name Marley for the new addition to our family.

He has settled in well and is now quite at home and even barks through the window at the brushtail possum who comes down for a feed during the night.

I've attached some photos. Regards, John and Di
