Success stories; September, 2009

Rex

We adopted Rex ('old Rex' as opposed to the younger Rex that was there) in July 09. You would not think he is 10 years old as he is so playful, energetic and extremely fast around the backyard.

He adapted to his new home very quickly and he is a very affectionate and loyal little dog.

Sue, the staff member, did say that Rex liked to fetch a ball but may not want to give it back. He is so funny once he gets hold of the ball. He does not want to give it back and he will run to a vacant area of the lawn and lay down with it. If you come any where near him, he picks the ball up and runs to a new location. All we have to say is "we're going inside now" and immediately Rex is at the back door with the ball, blocking the doorway. I have learnt to then give him a neck rub before swiftly grabbing the ball out of his mouth in one swift upward motion. Of course then the whole process repeats once I throw it and he regains possession.

Prior to adopting Rex, we recently lost our beloved little kelpie cross, Snoopy, who passed away at the age of 17. We really miss him and we did not think we would get another pet.

Whilst perusing the Petrescue website we saw Rex and his happy little face caught our attention. After visiting him and taking him for a test walk, Sue asked what I thought about him and did I want to adopt him or think about it, and she added "cos his bags are packed". I replied "well if his bags are packed...." and half an hour later he was in the backseat of our car on the way to his new home.

As it was with Snoopy, Its a great feeling when you arrive home from work and Rex is at the side gate wagging his tail furiously, with that look of sheer happiness on his face. We are very glad that we had the opportunity to adopt Rex and given him a home where he is valued and loved as a little family member.

Its obvious to us that whoever owned Rex previously cared for him very much as its reflected in his affectionate behaviour towards us and we will continue that same loving care for little Rex.

kind regards,

Phillip & Joanne :-)

Kit

I adopted Kit (formerly known as Summer) in September 08 and she has been such a great dog! I came to your shelter looking for a small golden oldie dog to spend their last few years in secure, loving, comfortable home, alas, I saw a Kit and fell in love with her at first sight. She sat there looking like a flying nun with those huge ears and i couldnt resist but to take her home She is spoilt rotten and thinks she is human. She claims my bed, not giving me much room nor doona for myself....talk about a doona dog!

Initially Kit was very quiet and docile but has defientley come out of shell! She has claimed a big paw print in my heart and is very loved!

She loves playing with our other dogs and has great manners now. She talks alot, she can say "yum yum" "hello" and "love you"....she sounds like Scooby Doo!!
Everyone that meets Kit feels the need to hug her, she is so affectionate and loving,I am so glad I found her!!

Thank you for caring for Kit until I found her, I will keep you updated.

Rani

We adopted "Rama" (now "Rani") last weekend and we promised that we would send a message to tell Theresa (I think) how she was getting on. We've attached a photo of her making herself at home.

She was absolute chaos for two days - alot of excess energy and everything was very exciting - but she has settled in beautifully now.

She's seen her first horse (panic!!!!), sheep (interesting) and chooks. She thought the chooks might be fun to chase on the first meeting but now she doesn't even given them a second glance and they can roam free as they always have. She is learning very quickly what is allowed and what isn't - we think she is a very smart girl.

Our other two dogs have not had a problem with her, altho our terrier (Molly) likes to give a little snarl every now and then just to remind Rani who's boss. She also gives her kisses! So everything has worked out great and she is a beautiful addition to our family.

Cheers and thanks, Mick, Pip and family.

Jack & Annie

This is Jack , quiet aloof gentleman, we adopted him on 11 Sept
To replace our beloved Doberman Ty. We also adopted Annie to
keep Jack company.

This is Annie , Adopted 11 Sept. She is full of puppy energy.
They each have their own food & water bowls and their own beds,
However Annie eats & Drinks out of Jacks Bowls........
Jack is so easy going he is quite happy to share ......Nothing is a Problem

Life is good.............

Bruce

Just thought I’d send a couple of photos of our beautiful buy Bruce who we adopted from the shelter in May this year.

As you can see he has well and truly settled into his home.

Cheers, Kay & Rod

Stevie

I adopted Stevie from the Animal Protection Society
in Feb this year. At first he was extremely timid, but soon came
around. Initially I was after a cat that would be both an indoors and
outdoors cat, but soon realized it was best for Stevie if he remained an
indoor cat.
He has such a beautiful nature and is always up for a cuddle, he has the run of the house and I must admit is very spoilt. He is great company and lots of fun and the best company.

Carron

Lincoln

I am so sorry it has taken me so long to let you know how Lincoln is doing but he fit in so well in our family it feels like he has always been with us.

We took Lincoln home in January 2008 and we have never had a moments regret. He has been the most beautiful old gentleman, well trained and has the most amazing manners, oh.... except for the occasional crotch sniff on some poor unsuspecting visitor to our house. As you may remember he was extremely fat, sorry that's not politically correct, he was cuddly and since being with us has lost 10 kg. Lincoln is so fit and healthy now, he loves a bush walk or running the horse paddocks with chasing rabbits being the ultimate in fun, whilst he never is fast enough to catch a rabbit it is amusing to watch a 60kg dog give it his best shot.
We discovered pretty quickly what his two favourite things in the world are, the first is riding in the car with his head hanging out the window and drool dripping down the side panels on the car, the second is chewing on smoked pigs ears. If he could manage to get a pigs ear into the back seat of the car we realise this would be doggy heaven for him.

Lincoln has become a very muched loved member of our family, our extended family and friends also adore him and we cannot imagine ever being without him. I would like to thank everyone at the shelter for hanging onto Lincoln until we came along as our lives would be empty without him. I cannot express enough how much we love this beautiful old man.

Again thanks to you all. Marianne, Archie, Lincoln and Bonnie
