Success stories
Bailey

Just thought we would update you on how Bailey is going in her new home.

We adopted Bailey on the 26th February 2009, and as you can see from the photos, Bailey has settled in very well. My 4 year old daughter just loves him to bits. Our other Jack Russell's life has improved as she now has a mate to run around with.

Lily

Just wanted to give you an update on Lily, adopted on 9 March from your shelter.

It was meant to be. It was love at first sight. The more we learnt about Lily, the more we realised that this was our girl. The kindness and devotion we witnessed from staff and volunteers of AAPS only confirmed our belief. Lily is just a beautiful 16 month old girl who loves nothing more than being cuddled and patted! She is currently being spoilt rotten with love and affection (and may be a few treats…) and in turn, she has given us pure joy. Lily will be starting her training very soon (with UnderDog) and it will do her a world of good. She is a clever cookie who will thrive with a bit more training. We’re looking forward to taking her off leash and letting her run around in designated areas in our local park.

She’s got these gorgeous eyes and you cannot get mad even after our planned dinner (meatloaf) ended up on the floor. At least she enjoyed I think she knows that the humans in the household are completely and utterly in love with her. She is fantastic with kids and is learning how to take commands from a 4 year old. She really enjoys our (very) early morning walks and to just chill out at your feet and watch some telly. There is not a bad bone in her body. She loves and she loves unconditionally. You cannot help reciprocate with love.

Thank you to everyone at AAPS for your wonderful work and for helping us bring this gorgeous girl into our home! Kind Regards, Victoria + Jim and the boys

Tarkyn

I thought we would give you an update on our kitten we adopted almost 2 years ago, as we thought it was time. His name is Tarkyn (Tarky for short). He has grown up so much as when we got him he was so much smaller than all the other kittens. He loves going for walks out on his harness, running up and down the halls, sitting in the sun and climbing on his 2.4m cat tower. He loves sitting at the very top just watching everyone go bye. He will always turn up in the strangest places, in umbrellas, boxes, guitar cases and clothes. We recently have got another kitten which he loves to death. They wash each other, snuggle up and sleep together.

Thank you for letting us adopt Tarky; we couldn't ask for a better cat. We have attached some photos to show you what a beautiful boy he has grown up to be. Alycia & Luke

APRIL 2009 Stories
Elliott

As you can see by my photo's I am so VERY happy with my new family.
Even though l am 11yrs old {well the grey is my natural color Woof} I feel young,
I'm getting plenty of sleeps, I have 3 meals a day and go on walks with my two brothers.
When my eyes don't see shadows, {as l am nearly totally blind} my new brothers show me the way.
When we all go on long walks, my mum carries me {till we find a pram or something}.
Every day is a blessing, so that is what l do; l live day to day to the fullest.

To all the staff who gave me cuddles and love, "thankyou"; especially Sue and Jill
Woof Woof, Lick Lick, love always Elliott

Felix

Let me start with a very BIG heart warming thank you to all the wonderful staff at Keysborough ! Felippe now known as Felix is doing just Great, he's put on some weight & his coat is just beautiful !

He loves smooches & cuddles and has the loudest purr. Felix was adopted on the 13/12/2009. We love him dearly and he has settled in nicely with the rest of our menagerie.
Felix sends his love & kisses to all that looked after him xxx
Kind Regards Darren & Sylvia

Peanut

We adopted Peanut on grand final day in 2008 (about 7 months ago). When we first laid eyes on peanut, we weren't quite sure... he was extremely timid and we could see that he had been mistreated by his previous owners.

I remember laying eyes on Peanut, the Friday we went searching for a dog. There he was sitting quietly and politely amongst all the big dogs who were barking crazily. We passed him and I said to Mum "he's so cute", but we had agreed to buy an older dog. We originally had eyes for another Jack Russell (Poppy), but when we bought our other dog (Phoenix) back with us the next day to meet and greet, they didn't get along. As we walked past the pen I said, well seeing as though we are here we may as well have a look at him. He was brought into the pen with Phoenix, myself and Mum, and he was so timid and quiet. We weren't 100% sure, as he wasn't very affectionate, but we just couldn't resist his cuteness, plus he didn't mind the company of Phoenix. On the way home he sat quietly in the front seat on Mum's lap looking very sad. We arrived home to let Phoenix back in and Peanut had a quick look around the house. We then took him down to the doggie warehouse in East Bentleigh to get him geared up for his new life.

We got him fitted for a lead, harness...and all the necessities, like a dog bed and bowl. At the shop he was so cute, just walking around slowly, very reluctant to get too close to the male shop assistant. We assumed he was scared of males, and believe it is true to this day.

Then coming home from the shop, we don't think he has looked back on his old life once. He is a great little dog full of character. Sadly, Phoenix was put down over Christmas. They were such good mates, Peanut actually went on a hunger strike for about 2 weeks. They used to sleep, eat, and do everything together. Peanut is still a very timid dog, and needs a lot of love and affection, and there is no shortage of either of these in our household. He has taken to his new life of sleeping on the bed, getting 2 meals a day and sunbaking in the garden when we are outside. He is a great little portable dog, and every time we leave the house he expects to come with us.

It's been amazing to see him come out of his shell....to see an abused dog, slowly learn to trust it's new owners is incredible. We just love him to bits and would never change him for another dog.

Kindest Regards, Kimberley
