Success stories
Cindy

Hi my name is Cindy or as my new mum sometimes calls me Cindy Lou and I am nearly 9 years old. My new mum and dad adopted me in April, 2007 and I have settled into my new home very well. They look after me, spoil me, play ball with me and because they are retired can spend lots of time with me. I think I am rather lucky. I have had sister and brother dogs who have passed away before me - two Josie a fox terrier X and Bobby a corgie X both came from the Keysborough Animal shelter, the other two where dogs that no one wanted. This picture was taken of me on Christmas morning with my Christmas present - I even have a pillow on my lounge bed to sleep on. I just love playing ball and am very good at it because I keep tossing the ball back when I bring it back. I am glad I am living at my new home with my new mum and dad.

Bugsy & Cashew

We adopted Bugsy & Cashew on 20 February 2008. Both have settled well into their new home and are a delight. They have taken to the run of the house and are a lovely addition to our home.

They love a walk around the block once a day and beg for one if not taken at their usual time. They sleep on the bed at night and love putting their “mummy” Scarlett to bed at night – she gives the best tummy rubs. Some nights they beat her to her bed and she has to squish in to find room.

They are eating well after a rocky start – we discovered from the previous owner that they lived on home-brand dry food and chocolate!!!. They certainly know the smell and sound of chocolate being unwrapped – but so not to miss out they get 2 dog chocs a night. They are a little overweight but we are managing to reduce their weight slowly and we have noticed them becoming more lively and active.

They both get on well with the two cats (both adopted from the AAPS- Dorothy tag#13710 & Little Boy #14633 and sometimes they are all on the bed at night (we must get a larger bed).

When we come home they greet us with such warmth and enthusiasm and Cashew lets out his squeal of delight – after a hard day at school and work they make coming home all the more welcoming.

They are great in the car and love to travel with us on our outings. They have been a focus of show and tell at school and relished the attention and extra tummy rubs.

We find ourselves very lucky to have found two loving and devoted dogs; they are greatly loved and love back.
Thank-you to the staff at the AAPS and keep up the good work.
Cheers, Scarlett, Claire & Brendon & the cats

Sassy

Sassy has been in her new home now for 6 months. She is soon to turn one. During that time, she has taken over my two bedroom flat, the neighbour's two bedroom flat, my courtyard, the neighbour's courtyard, and also held the neighbour's male cat (who is triple her size) to ransom! And I was worried that her name might not suit her personality! It is not difficult to manage a cat in a high-density inner city environment; provide them with a rotation of toys and plenty of sleeping options and they will adapt to living inside. On the weekend (only during the day of course), Sassy is let outside for some fresh air and antics. I can usually look outside my kitchen window and see her climbing a tree in the carpark, or hanging off my courtyard fence. She was introduced slowly outdoors, and knows exactly where her turf is, and where to return home. Only once has she escaped on me and slipped out the door; it was the night of a full moon, and the call of the neighbourhood cat gathering in the carpark was obviously too much of a drawcard. She eventually slunk back by 10.45pm after hearing the rattle of a tuna tin - and was worn out by all the adventure.

I would like to thank the AAPS for all their wonderful work under very trying circumstances. My first childhood cat was from the AAPS in the mid 1980s and then after getting a fantastic cat from the Victorian Animal Aid Trust in the 1990s, I have now returned to the AAPS and was lucky enough to be 'chosen' by Sassy. She now follows in the great tradition of the Martin family female feline forebears: Scarra-Manga, Silver and Scarlett.

Chewy & Beau

Just thought I would give you an update since it has been about 4 months since we have had Beau.

Things are going well. Beau loves it here and has made friends with our other dog Chewy. During the hot days, we have taken them both to the beach for a swim, which he loves. We just had them both clipped and they look identical.

Chewy does not have separation anxiety now since getting Beau, however the cat is a little stand offish. His personality has changed so much. When we first got him, he use to cower in the corner, and every time I picked up an object he use to hide.'

Now, he jumps on our lap wanting to be cuddled, and licks us to death. He loves to play and eat. He has put on some weight, and goes for long walks. We even took him to dog training, but he is so well behaved there, that I don't think he needed the training, but Jason and I did! I thought I would send some photo's, but he looks different now that he is clipped.

Thankyou for the wonderful work at AAPS finding us another member of our family, which we adore.

Charlie

I just wanted to send you some pics of Charlie - he is doing so well, such a happy dog.
He has brought so much joy into our lives already- I can't imagine life without him!
I hope you like the pics of Charlie, feel free to put one or two on the website for the Adopted Pets!
Happy Easter, Warmest Regards, Krystle MITCHELL
