Success stories
Casey & Wolf

Some of you may remember Casey & Wolf. As you can see, they are very happy & very much loved members of a family. It took us a while to find them a home where they would be welcomed as a pair but the wait was well worth it. We couldn’t have asked for better & all of us at AAPS would like to express our gratitude to their wonderful owners. We wish you all many, many years of happiness together. Thankyou.

Ernie

Last week I adopted Ernie the Pom x from the shelter. He has been an absolute delight. Ernie was a  Golden Oldies Adoptee.... He just loves to watch the world go, play  and snuggle up to all the other animals and then go for  rest.  Ernie has bought so  much love and wisdom into  our home. I am  blessed to have Ernie  to care for.

Brandy

Our family has been without a dog for 7 years, after our previous pointer x greyhound Pepsi wandered off one night, never to be seen again. At the time, our youngest child was only 2, and we had a lot on, so delayed finding a new dog. Eventually after many years of saying 'soon' to the children, we decided this year was going to be the right time. We decided to look at an adult dog, as we are all at school and work 4 days per week, so in January, the search began.

We adopted Brandy after an extensive on-line search and many phone calls to people who needed to relocate their pets. We had seen Brandy on the Keysborough site and flagged her as a dog we wanted to meet, although we thought that a 10 year old would be too old.

The day we met her, she charmed us all with her bouncing and her immediate wish to fetch a ball. Somehow, she found one in the yard of the dogs home, and got us to throw for her, so we could see what a great fetcher she was. That was it! It was the one thing our old dog had never got the hamg of - somehow Brandy knew! I made the children come away from the home while we had a discussion about the pros and cons of Brandy - her size (large rather than medium) her age (a little older than we had wanted) but of course her winning personality had us hooked! Within the hour, we were back at the home, hoping no one else had taken her!

Since bringing Brandy home, we have had so much pleasure - even on the long trip back to Gippsland, she just settled right down and slept or watched out the window (yes, she was a bit excited some of the time!). She is a great pal, who adores us all, loves to go on walks (we go twice a day) and enjoys fetching that ball!

Our local vet gave Brandy a clean bill of health when we took her to be introduced, and he commented on her good health and manners - he also thinks she has been lying about her age, and may only be 6-8 years old. We hope so!

At home, she spends more time in with us than out, and has taken to sneaking (if a 31kg dog can)onto the couch - although I don't like dogs on the furniture, she looks so funny that I often turn a blind eye to her antics, especially when she sits on our 9 year old, who disappears under a very pleased and squashy Brandy! We've also discovered that she hates the wind, and on windy nights needs to be settled (hmmmm).

I have attached some photos of Brandy at a local river, which being a Lab, she loves - she also loves to wade in the pond at our local park, and even retrieved a footy for a family who accidentally kicked it in. Some days though she wanders in and drops her ball in the middle as she picks up some interesting scent. Never mind, she's also good at finding balls other dogs have left! I have taken her to the children's hockey practice, but she caused a bit of chaos when she tried to retrieve 13 balls all at once!

We have discovered Brandy's only vice (if you can call it that) which is that she chases cats with absolute abandon and single mindedness. Apart from that, she is a well schooled dog who we really love - none of us can imagine our lives without her, and we think she loves us too! I hope her old family can read this, so they know she is doing well and is very happy with her adoptive family. Thank you for the training you obviously put into Brandy, and for her beautiful nature with people - she has not growled at any wanted visitors to our house, and doesn't bother other people when we are out.

Thanks also go to Keysborough Animal Shelter, we have recommended you to many of our friends!

Jasper

We have a new kitten & Jasper ( Nov 07 & Jan 08 stories) loves him dearly. We were worried Jasper would be jealous as he was the only child so to speak. Jasper has so much love to give & these pictures were taken only 24 hours after the kitten arrived.

Jasper is truly a wonderful dog with so much courage, trust & compassion. Yes, Dog & Cats do live in peace.

Regards,
Doug & Leanne Page

Wally

In April we adopted an 8 week old Brindle puppy who had been turned into the Shelter with his brother and his mother (Jackie Staff x Kelp). We had been looking for a dog to keep out 10 month old Staffy "Poppy" company, when Nicola told me she had two Staffy Cross Pups she would like us to meet. Two days later and we had taken home the larger of the two pups and named him Wally. Everything was going well until Poppy suddenly passed away shortly before her 1st birthday ***beyond tragic :( ***
Wally now has a new sister, a Purebreed Staffy named Matilda who keeps him on his toes.

She is a little rat-bag and loves to antagonize him when he is trying to be a good boy! He is nearly 6 months old now and VERY big (around 16kg) considering how small he was when we brought him home. He LOVES to lay on top of our feet when he sleeps and thinks the cats are his playtoys!!
Thank you to Jill and Nicola and everybody else who helped up find the big lap dog!
Love Megan, Matilda, Wayne and Wally

Curly Sue

I adopted gorgeous Curly Sue from the AAPS a few weeks ago. She is surprisingly tame and has settled in well with my two other guinea pigs. She has quickly learned to push in to get the best bits of grass and fresh veggies. Thank you especially to Leigh for organising Curly Sue's adoption - I'm delighted with this little piggie! Kind regards,Hannah.

Daisy

I adopted Daisy (formerly known as "Sarah") in May 2008. She settled in straight away and has been the most friendly cat I have ever met, always eager for a pat and a lap to sit on.
Daisy is now an indoor cat and seems perfectly happy to watch the birds in the birdbath from the comfort of the couch. Although she doesn't show an interest in going outside she always greets me at the door when I get home.

It has taken her a while to reveal a playful side but after being introduced to a tennis ball last week she is reliving her kitten years once again. She is a very affectionate girl and every morning makes sure I am awake a little too bright and early by tapping me on the face and purring very loudly. No need for an alarm clock now!
Thank you to everyone at the AAPS for the great work you do. I will definitely be back if I am ever looking for a new furry family member! Stephanie

Bailey

I just wanted to update you on my baby, that I adopted from you on Valentines Day 2007. His tag number was 16203, and his name is now Bailey.

As you can see by the photos, I started out with a teeny tiny kitten, and now have a 7 kg stunning boy! The vet actually thinks he may have some Maine Coon in him. Bailey is the most laid back, cool, calm and collected cat I have ever met! Nothing phases him, he loves the car, as long as he can see what's going on, often comes on visits to friends houses, etc. In fact, he's more like a dog than a cat... lol.

He's definitely the king of our house, and since I have had him, my fiancée has come along, its funny to see them edge each other for a piece of the bed. Thanks for the great work you do, Emma
(PS) The first pic is when I first got him, and the next one more recently.
