Dear AAPS,
About two years ago my German Sheppard Jake passed away. I made the decision to get another dog and a friend recommended the Keysborough Animal Shelter as she had adopted a Jack Russell Alice and a cat April from them.
So on February 1st 2003 I drove down from Gladstone Park with the hope of leaving that day with a new dog.
As I walked through the kennels my eye caught a dog hiding in the back of her kennel, her name was Nancy. She was a three year old at the time and a female Staffordshire Terrier cross. I called to her but she was to frightened to come over.
I asked a member of the staff to give me some history on Nancy and she told me she had recently had a litter of puppy's and her previous owner used to beat her. I immediately felt sorry for her and could not comprehend how someone could mistreat a dog in that way.
I was introduced to her and she eventually came over and rolled over waiting for a tummy scratch and the rest is history.
I left that day with a new dog and it changed both our lives for the better.
I decided to rename her Jessie partly as a way to wipe her past life and start her with a new life.
So two years later she is a happy, placid, friendly dog who has made our lives better.
Kind Regards,
