Success stories
Jessie

Dear AAPS, About two years ago my German Sheppard Jake passed away.  I made the decision to get another dog and a friend recommended the Keysborough Animal Shelter as she had adopted a Jack Russell Alice and a cat April from them.  So on February 1st 2003 I drove down from Gladstone Park with the hope of leaving that day with a new dog.

As I walked through the kennels my eye caught a dog hiding in the back of her kennel, her name was Nancy.  She was a three year old at the time and a female Staffordshire Terrier cross.  I called to her but she was to frightened to come over. I asked a member of the staff to give me some history on Nancy and she told me she had recently had a litter of puppy's and her previous owner used to beat her.  I immediately felt sorry for her and could not comprehend how someone could mistreat a dog in that way.  I was introduced to her and she eventually came over and rolled over waiting for a tummy scratch and the rest is history.

I left that day with a new dog and it changed both our lives for the better. I decided to rename her Jessie partly as a way to wipe her past life and start her with a new life. So two years later she is a happy, placid, friendly dog who has made our lives better.

Kind Regards, Jason Egan

Mieka

Meet the lovely Mieka! This is what Mieka's mum has to say about her:
"She is very well loved and has settled in nicely, she is full of energy and is great at accompanying me on my nightly runs along the beach.

She comes with me everywhere and is fairly well behaved most of the time ;o) although a couple of my shoes have disappeared to the backyard grave site. She loves other dogs and people and is constantly trying to get EVERYONE's attention!

I wouldn't trade her for the world, she is exactly what I was looking for in a little friend, she is a just a beautiful little soul".

Tyson

Hi to all my friends at Keysborough, I have settled into my new life and my new home rather well. I have regular meals throughout the day and I have put on a bit of weight since I left you. My new family looks after me well and I love playing with the kids who are 18 & 10 ( well I suppose the 18yr old isn't a kid anymore ). I really love being inside the house and I love chilling out on the couch! Although my new friend Buddy, the Eclectus Parrot doesn't like me being on his couch! I love to lick his face but sometimes he likes to spread his big wings and growl at me.....but in all we get along well together. I also have another 2 new friends.... Sox the huge grey Rabbit and Gizmo the Guinea Pig....they are in a cage in the big backyard that I have called my own.

I also love to go in the car......especially when my family takes me to Edithvale Beach on a hot summer night. I have so much fun. I have developed one bad habit though I dig holes in the middle of the backyard......my family are trying their best to get me to stop. My family have now registered me with their local council too. All in all.......I am having a great time with lots of new friends both animal and human........ I have sent you 2 pics of me and 1 pic of my friend buddy the Eclectus Parrott.

I did want to say a big thank you to all of the staff there for looking after me so well in the time that I was there at AAPS in Keysborough........and thanks for finding me a loving family to live with. I will see you all soon as I visit the vet there so I will pop my head in the door the next time O.K? See you later Tyson and the whole Ryan Family.......including Buddy the Parrot
