Success stories
Chocolate and Honey

honey and choc

We welcomed Chocolate into our home in mid November of 2005.

Choc is a 12 month old Staffy/Lab and has enormous amounts of energy.  Whilst picking out Choc we had seen another dog “Honey” on the website.  Fortunately, a few weeks later it looked as though Honey had found a home, however, in December reappeared on the website.  She must have been returned. She looked like such an adorable girl and we just had to meet her.  In doing this, we also had to take Choc out to meet her – without his approval she could not make our home hers!

It was love at first site and Honey & Choc played together for over an hour and we decided to take her home.  Hun has been neglected in her youth and it does take her a little while to warm to certain people & environments.

However, with each day and having her new brother close she is becoming a cheeky, confident but above all amazingly affectionate and loving girl.  Hun & Choc play together all day long (which includes destroying the garden & much in their path), enjoy two walks a day, run of the house and food is high on their list of priorities!  They have both settled in very well & have started much needed obedience training.

We couldn’t have asked for two better dogs. Extended thanks to Jill & Nicky who loved Honey so much that they persisted with her re-homing. We are forever grateful for your efforts.

Gypsy

My name is Courtney, I adopted Sugar last year, and just thought I would let you know how she is going. I have called her Gypsy, as I have another Lab Grady that I got from RSPCA and a cat Grimace who I also got from RSPCA. All my animals start with the letter G. Gypsy has fitted in tremendously. She is now the boss of the 3 of them, typical female hey.

Gypsy and Grady love playing Tug of war with their rope, really they love fighting over just about anything. She loves him, she follows him around the backyard all day. I think that is why she is looking terrific, she has slimmed down a lot. A pity the Big Boy Grady hasn’t slimmed down.

I was told she didn’t like cats much, but she has warmed to Grimace, she likes chasing him occasionally, but most of the time when I greet them in the morning the three of them are sitting at the backdoor together. The 2nd picture is of grady & gypsy at the backdoor. She loves her big brother Grady.

Thanks again for looking after these beautiful dogs & cats, I think your shelter is terrific, letting me bring in Grady to play with Gypsy first to see if they would get along, it’s a great idea.

The staff are very friendly and you can see that they love the animals, I would love to run a dog shelter, only problem is that all the animals would end up at my house. Thanks, Courtney

Obie

Hi I'm Obie (a golden retriever cross)  On the 26th of May 2000 at the age of 6 months I moved from AAPS to Bentleigh to live with Kath & Col.  In the six years living with them I have learnt how to do many things and as a result have had roles in two TV Commercials.  The first was in April 2003, a Red Rooster TVC.  The second time was in October 2005 for Stayfree TVC, this has yet to air.  However once the Stayfree commercial is sent to us by the Ad Agency we will forward a copy to AAPS. Attached are a few photos of me....  the silly spotted one is Zac.  He turns 3 on April Fool's Day 2006.  He may be bigger than me but I still higher rank within the family.

Woof Woof, Obie Hill

Morris and Jerry

It’s been about 6 weeks since we adopted Morris (formerly Sox) and Jerry from the shelter and we thought we would give you an update on how they are settling in. Morris is big and beautiful. His nickname is “Big Cat” or “Puss in Boots” (due to his white socks). When Morris is sooky he likes to lick your fingers and toes. He loves sitting in the window of our bedroom watching the world go by. He enjoys going outside to pounce in the grass and climb the fig tree. He loves rubbing and rolling all over the concrete outside the back door. Jerry has taken on the nickname “Crazy” or “Psycho Kitten”. Jerry is like any little kid; he is 9 months old and is king of mischief. He likes to do laps of the house and play with his little ball. Jerry purrs like a lawn mower. He has the biggest yellow eyes and is so cute.

Morris and Jerry are becoming closer each day. They sleep next to each other at night. They occasionally chase each other around the house and play in the back yard together. The grass is quite long at the moment so they like to hide and pounce on each other. Sometimes Jerry can be overbearing for Morris who is a couple of years older than him. Morris will come inside and Jerry will be waiting to pounce on him as he walks in. Morris usually replies with a hiss and a slap of the paw! It’s very funny to watch! Our boys have brought loads of joy to our lives. We can’t understand why they ended up in the shelter in the first place but are just glad that we were able to adopt them. We highly recommend to anyone that is looking to adopt a feline not to discount adult cats. What greater joy than to know that you have given a cat a second chance and they are so very appreciative of that. Their love in return is worth more than words can say.

Thank you to the dedicated staff at the AAPS. With your determination to give all animals the best chance at finding a new home, we were able to adopt two very special cats.

Kind Regards, Ros, Jack, Morris and Jerry xxx
