Hi everyone at the Australian Animal Protection Society!
I have been trying to send an update of our beloved adoptee boy for awhile, but finally I have got myself organised. Tank has been with us for nearly 6 weeks now & he has made himself a very special part of our lives. Our 10 month old American Staffy girl (Mallee) is overjoyed at finally having a live-in fur brother & they play non-stop from morning 'til night. In the beginning Tank was more interested in spending time with his new mum & dad, but as he has settled in he has become more playful & he really gives Mallee a run for her money! Mallee & Tank play tug-of-war, chasey, keepies off and they wrestle & chew each other's ears/cheeks/feet/etc. for hours! And the noises Tank makes when he is playing with Mallee are absolutely hilarious!!!
Tank has adjusted very quickly to being an inside/outside dog & has been very easy to toilet train. He loves following me around everywhere & even waits outside our bathroom while I am having a shower! He is an extremely loyal companion & I love spending time with & him giving him lots of cuddles. He is a real smooch & is always giving away lots of kisses! We enrolled Tank in obedience & socialisation classes the day after we adopted him and last Saturday he passed out of his basic class-hooray for Tank! He has been very responsive to training because he is always eager to please, very soft hearted to correction & loves food rewards! Tank has the biggest appetite of any dog I have ever seen & he has really been enjoying lots of variety in his diet & plenty of meaty bones.
Tank also loves getting out into the big world & he is getting better in the car (he suffers from car sickness, which I discovered on our long drive home from the shelter!). We have a park with a fenced baseball field at the end of our street and Tank loves to be off-lead seeing how fast he can run & his playing his favourite game - fetching a ball. I also just wanted to let you know that our stray cat has had the sense to stay in the front yard & carport of our home as I think she realises that Tank might not exactly be the cat friendly type! Also Tank has not shown any inclination to jump our fences although he & Mallee did escape one afternoon because they dug under our fence & we have since reinforced the lower sections of our fences. Thankfully they went to the home of one of Mallee's dog friends & the humans there were kind enough to keep them secure until we came home from work!
A big thanks to everyone at AAPS for saving gorgeous animals like Tank & giving them a second chance. We will always consider getting a dog from a shelter in the future as Tank is every bit as special as our beautiful purebred girl.
Lots of Love & Best Wishes, Kylie, Sean, Mallee & Tank |
