Dear AAPS

I was looking at your site yesterday (we're thinking it might be time for a second dog) and read some of the emails you've received from people who have adopted animals from your shelter. I've been rather slow in letting you know, but thought it wasn't too late to send a short email about the wonderful dog we adopted from your shelter in 1999. Von (featured in the attached photo while on holidays last year) is a husky x (a small version) and as good a dog as you could ever have in your family. She's very gentle, affectionate (a mad keen licker) and (mostly) obedient. She's full of energy and particularly enjoys visits to our local off-the-leash park which we try and manage most days.

Thanks to the shelter for the opportunity to gain such a good friend who my wife and I love dearly. By the way, my mother-in-law adopted a terrier x from your shelter a couple of years before us and Jack has been a great companion for her too.

Kind regards, Stephen Redenbach

Hi guys,

I thought I'd drop a note to tell you guys how I'm going and to say a big "THANK YOU" to you for taking such good care of me whilst I was there.  I've been with my new family for nearly 2 months now and I'm having a ball... They have a big backyard for me to play in and plenty of toys... I especially love the "toys" in the garage.  Hehehehe...  Imagine my owner's face when they found a Whipper Snipper lying in the middle of their backyard.  My other favourite game is playing tug and chewing on everything and anything.  I also loooooove eating and have already put on 2 kgs since I left the Australian Animal Protection Society.  My other favourite past time is sleeping, and sometimes I snore sooooo loud, my family is kept awake by my snoring...

A piece of advise for all my other friends at the society, one good way to get all those yummy treats is to learn to do tricks...  I am able to do basic commands like "sit", "shake", "stay", "down"...  I'm even able to distinguish between my Kong and rope, and fetch these when I'm asked to... but that's only for very, very yummy treats. Anyway, I am having a great time here and hope that you guys are as well.  I miss you guys heaps...  I have to go now and wreak more havoc on my family...  :)

Love, Sushi

London

Dear AAPS,

I just wanted to update you on London (black, shepherd cross adopted in early December 2003) who has well and truly settled into our family.  We already had Paris (a Belgian shepherd 13 years) and Boogie (a small, demanding feline) both adopted family members. London is on the left and Paris is on the right. I had been looking for a dog to adopt as a gift for Zach and found London on your website.  She looked perfect, although we orginally wanted an older dog, we thought we would go and meet her. We took Paris and my 8 year old niece to meet "the puppy" and she was so adorable and eager to be friends we took her home there and then.

London and Paris are best mates, Boogie – well she’s still recovering from the shock of having another dog around – at least they can all sit in the same room now and watch the TV together!  We have had endless laughs from their antics, a few tears over the chewed heating ducts, the standard roses chewed in half, phone cables disconnected, traumatic visit to the vet – which turned out to be a tummy upset, and the many holes throughout the back and front yards however, we adore London’s wonderful personality, her sweet nature with children and her unconditional doggy love.

Both London and Paris go to dog school and have progressed to the intermediate level.  She loves her walks, rides in the car, her woolly blanket, holidays with us, chewing on sticks and the open fire. Thank you for the opportunity to adopt such a gorgeous; beautiful dog with a big, bright personality we all love her very much.

Thomas

I am writing to tell everybody about my adoption experience. I came to your shelter a week ago and saw the cutest, most affectionate kitty sitting by the window enjoying the sun. He has a beautiful white coat with black tail and head. I walked over to the little guy and sat down next to him. He immediately got up and curled up in my lap. I fell in love. I told the lady I wanted to take him and he came home with me and my partner.

Thomas is such a lucky boy, with run of the house, and our brand new navy couch is certainly getting a workout! He loves to play with his fake furry mouse and every now and then he gets a dollop of cream after dinner. That's his favourite. He's even sussed out our 11 year old dog Charlie and bosses him around like he owns the place, but Charlie doesn't seem to mind, he really enjoys the company when I'm not home.

All the animals have so much love to give and it brings a tear to my eye to think that they have no home. All of their faces fill with excitement and anticipation as they see you walk by; hoping that today will be their last day of being in 'prison'. They all deserve quality of life, freedom and love...that's all they ask for. So please, if you have lots of love to give, and the time please consider adopting an animal that desperately needs your help.

I know I've made a fantastic decision in adopting my Thomas and life just wouldn't be the same without him now! With kind regards,

Kate Jannese
