Success stories |
Sascha |
Dear staff at AAPS,
We thought you might like an update on the progress of Sascha, the German Shepherd who we adopted from AAPS (under the name of Taj) in December last year.
We had recently lost our golden lab Bessie at age 14, which had caused much heartache. We stumbled across a picture & description of Taj on the AAPS website. We were told that she didn't like men so only I came into the pen at Keysborough to say hello. After an hour with her, we stopped her relentless pacing around the pen, and my husband Neil even had her rolling on her back demanding a belly rub (so much for not liking men!). Thank you to the AAPS staff for being patient as we were there for a while.
Sascha has settled into her new home nicely and has improved on her initial car sickness. We originally couldn't move for more than 5 minutes before she turned a nasty shade of green. But in less than a couple of months, and with the aid of copious amounts of liver treats, she has made it down to the Mornington Peninsula to play in the sand (not sure about the water though!). She loves her walks and is getting accustomed to socialising with other dogs (including little white fluffy ones that she doesn't consider a dog yet!) and meeting new people.
She is definitely part of the family and as I write this, I can't wait to arrive home to see her excited face and get my on-demand "handshake".
Regards, Thao & Neil.

Connor and Gabe |

Hi to everyone at the AAPS:
Would just like to let you all know how the pair of 'twin' Burmese cats - Connor and Gabe - are getting along. They have not only settled in to their new home: they have completely taken over it! We are yet to figure out why on earth anybody would have abandoned these exquisite creatures - I would have two in every colour if I could (I'm working on it...!). They are talkers and climbers. Connor can sometimes be seen sitting in the backyard imitating a bird call, as he attempts to lure sparrows into his open jaws!!! Gabe will leap onto our shoulders whenever he thinks it might be dinnertime (if he had his way, it would be dinnertime ALL the time!).
They have spent a little bit of time at the vet, as they have been diagnosed with chronic congenital gingivitis, but it doesn't bother them at this stage. They are on a special diet including chicken bones, oral care food, and chicken flavoured tooth brushing to help manage their condition. We are also looking into natural therapies, like homeopathy, to help their symptoms. They will most likely lose most of their teeth when they are a bit older, so we will have a pair of crazy old men ruling the house!
We love them very much - even though they are absolute show-offs. They even snuck their way into a recent photography exhibition at an art gallery in St Kilda - and were much admired by all who attended! Their antics are always a talking point for visitors who are not used to seeing paw prints near the ceilings and cats perched on the tops of doors. I suspect that Burmese cats are descended from birds (or perhaps the other way around?!). They are an absolute delight and we couldn't possibly imagine life without them.
Thanks again for the opportunity to adopt them, and best wishes for 2006!

Elsie and Vanilla |

These are my beautiful baby girls who I adopted from your shelter about 6 months ago. Elsie (brown) and Vanilla (black) now get fresh vegies, oaten hay and grass everyday. Elsie is still very timid and only comes to me when she is sure I have some sultana’s she wants. Vanilla has always been very affectionate despite being found malnourished in a plastic bag, in the middle of the road. When she first came home, Vanilla didn’t move around much – she was too weak and exhausted – but now she has the run of the house and yard and is back to a healthy weight. I love my babies so much I went to adopt a few more the AAPS – I will show you them later.

Milly |

Dear AAPS,
We found our dog, Milly (beagle 7months) at the AAPS in June 2005 and knew she was the dog for us. She has certainly become our best mate and we cant imagine life without her.
Milly has the perfect personality. She loves quiet nights on the couch but also enjoys steeling shoes, socks and anything that is within reach. She loves to play outside in our backyard with her bones and toys and enjoys walks along the beach. Lightning quick laps around the yard are her specialty.
We would like to thank all of the staff at the AAPS shelter and vet clinic for their help and advice. We cant imagine why Milly was at the shelter in the first place but we are very pleased to have her as part of our family.
From Mark, Beth and Milly. |
