Harvey

I just wanted to give you a brief update on our new family member renamed "Harvey" aka "Hercules" the Fox Terrier X.
Harvey has settled in beautifully, we have had him for only 9 days, but already he has learnt basic obedience such as sit, wait, no, give and bed.
He is a very relaxed, outgoing and cheeky little fellow and we have not seen any separation anxiety at all, just an energetic little guy who is still a puppy at 11 months.
We have all fallen in love with his cute face and mischievious antics, a true Foxie! We are glad to be his 3rd and final forever home!

I will keep you posted and send a photo next time.

Betty and Boo

We adopted cats Betty and Boo a couple of months ago and wanted to let you know they have settled in wonderfully.

They have adapted well to our dog and young children.

Thank you so much for our loving new additions.

Pepper

Just a quick email to thank you for bringing Pepper into our lives and to update you on the awesome adventures that we are having as a complete family now.

Its only been a couple of months but Pepper has really fitted in well with the daily routine - albeit one or two moments when she thought that the dining room table was for standing on - i can tell you that was a complete surprise.

When we got her we where a bit worried about her size and energy levels as we also have a cat, who likes to laze around in the sun and on various surfaces in the house. But Pepper has fitted in so nicely with Willow Puss that they are now sleeping together cuddling each other at night and lazing around together during the day when they aren't playing together.

Pepper enjoys daily walks, and loves nothing better than going to an off-leash dog park to meet every owner and every dog. She is such a social dog and bounds and bounces up to be people and children for pats. She has never shown any aggression or even barked at another dog, which i think is down to the time she spent at Keysborough Animal Shelter and her previous owners, as she is so placid around others. We honestly cannot work out why anyone would give up such a beautiful puppy.

Each day we are discovering something new about Pepper, the first few days revealed that she loves hugs and pats, then it was how sociable she was, then how she loves to try to catch the hose water when i'm watering the plants, but best of all she went to the beach for the first time the other day and chased the waves for at least an hour and seemed so happy and just ran and bounced around.

We are training Pepper the usual "sit, stay, heal and come" commands, which she is picking up easily. We are in the process of getting her assessed so that we can volunteer with her through some charities to visit sick children and the elderly as part of their therapy as she just loves being around people and is so gentle with everyone she meets.

Leo

We fell in love and adopted Leo from your shelter sometime in Sept/Oct 2010 as sadly our cat Sheena aged 17yo passed away. Sheena was also adopted from Keysborough animal shelter & we got to enjoy her company for 16 yrs.Leo when we brought him home was unsure of his new surroundings but day 2 he started to feel at home with us & his new mate our little Jack Russell dog,Buddy who is also an adopted dog. We kept Leo indoors for the first 3 weeks and gradually intoduced him with supervision outdoors til we felt confident enough to let him explore the backyard & beyond. He comes & goes whenever he wants through the dinette window. However we make sure he doesn't go out after 5pm wintertime & 6pm on summer. He has his little bed in the laundry.Leo is a big cat & nearly as big as Buddy the dog. They get along so well it's such a delight to watch them play. Much fun than watching the telly I have enclosed a photo collage of Leo. The middle photo is a portrait I did of Leo--he's a gorgeous cat.

Baxter & Molly

Baxter (somewhat faithful) and Molly (somewhat less faithful) love to go to the beach at Ocean Grove

They are both really lovely dogs that do have a mind of their own and regularly and challenge us – we will win (that is Jo & I)

Trust you are still winning at Pet Rescue?

Lawrence (& Jo)

Alfie

Back in December we adopted Min ( now ALFIE). He is a poodle x & we are his third (& last) owners.
He has adjusted well to life with us. He sleeps in our family room & we regularly find him asleep on the couch in the morning!
At 15 months old he is now toilet trained, walking better on the lead & great fun to have around.
We have found a toy he loved that he hasn't destroyed & he loves to have a good chew on a fresh bone.
He loves his regular walks & has been to the beach, although he isn't too sure about the water.
We can't imagine life without Alfie.

Marley

Hello just want to give you an update on the Staffy X we adopted in July 09 who we have renamed Marley.
Marley is doing GREAT! We have recently had a new addition to the family ( a baby Girl ) who Marley adores and is super protective of!..We were a little worried about how she maybe with a baby as she was adopted and we didn’t know her background , but she has been extremely good with our now 4 month old daughter!
Thank you again , Marley has made myself and my partner extremely happy and no doubt our daughter and Marley will be the best of friends!

Rob

I adopted a 5 and a half year old cat from you guys a few months ago. His name was Paddy. His name is now Rob. I brought my dog (princess Chew Chew) into the shelter to see who would respond. Only one cat did (other than the 'instant hissing pom-poms') and he ran straight over to the rightfully-terrified Chew Chew, and seemed to be trying to make out with her feline-style. We're all great mates now, and he has just been perfect, especially for a first time cat owner. Ive had to pull him out of the walls a couple times, but Ive since realised that once its dinner time, he miraculously remembers how to get out himself. Rob has been very good company for Chew Chew, and has shown her how to follow him around everywhere. He is so friendly that she has overcome her cat phobia enough to defend her dinner, which is great as she lost a couple meals in the early days (I found her sobbing in the corner of the laundry as she watched from afar while Rob chowed down).
Thankyou very much for all that you do, Rob is everything Chew Chew and I were looking for, and Im sure that not everyone would have given him as much time as you did to find a home.
Many kind regards, Danielle.

Lacey

We went in to get another cat when Lacey happened to spot us straight away, it was instant love and she adopted us. She has settled right in to a routine.
Gives me kisses on the cheek, settles onto my lap for quiet time and loves playing with all her toys. She also looks forward to taking "speckies" with the rope my husband plays with with her. Adores her outside adventure playground cat run. Needless to say she is one very spoilt and much loved puss. Thank you so much AAPS.
Keep up the good work,
Cheers, Sue and Chris.

Bruno

Just a quick letter to let Keysborough animal shelter know that our new family member has settled in just nicely. Bruno is one of the most loving and gentle Dobermans we have ever had, and I just wanted to reassure Sue (our point of contact with the shelter) that he has a loving home and a new best friend.

Regards Simon and Michelle

Dice

This is just a quick update to let you know how Dice is going. He settled in straight away and he’s doing great! Originally we were planning to change his name as we are not fond of novelty names or even markings (it must have been his charm that attracted us) and we wanted a new name for a new start, but he just responded so well to Dice and we couldn’t think of another name that would suit him! He’s the most wonderful cat and we are grateful every day that we get to call him our baby, and boy is he spoilt! Regardless of our student economic situation, he gets all the top market products and veterinary care that he could ever ask for (not that he needs it, he’s in top shape). I took him into the VU clinic for a checkup (and to show him off) and he was an immediate favourite – he got his temperature taken four times because he didn’t mind one bit! He’s even stopped shedding (thank goodness). Perhaps it was the stress that made him lose his hair but now he doesn’t even require a brush, but he still receives one 3-4 times a week because it’s his favourite thing in the world and he loves looking like a show cat. He also adores getting his nails clipped and getting his monthly flea treatment put on… is he even a cat at all? Although he no longer climbs on our shoulders, he likes to sleep on our heads and knead our throats in the middle of the night instead. His other hobbies include racing around the lounge room with his plastic spoon, stealing pens, being fed sneaky treats from the dinner table, sitting in the shower, sitting in plastic bags and watching movies.

He’s the perfect addition to our little family and we can’t wait to spoil him for many years to come. Thank you so much!

Meggsy

Thank you so much to the kind staff at the Keysborough shelter. We adopted Messy, now called Meggsy six weeks ago. He settled in so well he now owns us and rules the house. The photo is his usual pose with, yes, a water bottle. Loves a wander in the garden most mornings but knows he must be inside at a certain time. We think he must have an inbuilt watch.
Again thank you for allowing us to adopt Meggsy.
Joan Des and Mike.

Kiki

I bought Kiki just over a month ago after seeing him roam around the AAPS office and boy has he settled in!

He sleeps on the bed at night but special steps had to be made for him to climb up as his legs are as "big as a minute" (he is a papillion x). He manages the steps very easily now after modifications had to be made (he didn't like the first one). When you think he is sound asleep and I get up, he is up following. Where I go, my little shadow follows.

He hardly barks at all but when the pesky possums come down at night for food you would swear you lived with a German Shepherd. He has excellent eyesight and hearing for 11 years of age!

When I go out, I give him a treat ball which he pushes around the floor. This keeps him amused for quite a while. Its his favourite toy.

For such a little dog, he has a huge personality, and I love him very much.

Thank to all at AAPS and keep up the good work in re-homing animals.

Dawn

Flip & Cruiser

We thought we would send you an email to let you know how we're going 4 months on from finding our 'forever home' with Lisa & Nicky...

We have to tell you that we are very spoilt and we rule the house over the other four-legged residents - including 2 large dogs... We love to keep the humans entertained with our punch-on's (in fun of course!) and the other mischievous things we get up to. We like to stake a claim on the human's beds and couches - where we can snuggle up all warm and cozy.

Thank you so much for looking after us for so long before we were spotted by our human adopters. We know they love us very much and we get loads of affection from them.

Lots of love from Flip & Cruiser

Feather

We just thought we would write and let you know how our lovely Feather has been doing since we adopted her from you in February.

We had some teething problems when we first got her as she was very anxious when we weren't home and initially howled & cried all day, then that settled down and she started destroying things!!! After consultation with our vet, and lots of work, she has settled right down now and any destruction seems more like normal puppy behaviour related, rather than due to anxiety.

She is a very happy dog. She gets a walk every day at the local off lead park. She gets lots of treats to keep her busy during the day when we are out! And on Tuesdays and Thursdays, her cousin Casey (a 9 month old golden retriever) comes over to play all day while both their "parents" are at work. They absolutely love each other and don't seem to stop wrestling and playing the whole time they are together!!!

One things that has not been an issue at all is walking off lead. We taught her to come to her name and since then have been letting her off lead. She plays beautifully with all other dogs and has never shown even the slightest instinct of chasing. She even lies down when she is playing with little dogs and puppies so they can reach her (very very cute and our vet was very impressed when she heard about this great behaviour). She has lots of doggy friends at the park and she does love to run with the other working dogs in particular. She is much loved by the other dog walkers and I think some of them would kidnap her if they could!!!

She has put on 4kg and is now an ideal weight and her coat has thickened up beautifully (whether that is due to winter or a good diet - who knows??)

We have attached a few photos for you (Feather with her friend Casey and watching TV with her dad).

We are thrilled to have her in our lives. She is a real delight and we laugh every day at her funny antics and her exhuberance for life.

We were sad to see that Manu (her friend from old days) is still with you. He was a lovely dog and we hope he finds a home soon.

Kind Regards,
Fleur & Avi

Leila

Leila (formerly known as Shibi) came to live with us in June of 2011 after being dumped overnight at the shelter in Keysborough. She was in a pretty bad way with a badly damaged eye that had to be removed. So when we picked her up she was looking a little worse for wear, she had been desexed and still had stitches from where her eye had been sewn over. The fur around her eye was all shaved back to the skin also. When I walked past all the cages, all the dogs were going crazy barking and running around, but not Leila. She sat quietly in her cage and watched me. She was the most beautiful thing I had ever seen and I fell in love then and there. She came home with me to live with my family the very next day.

From the moment she stepped in the front door she became a completely different dog. Her face lit up and she just seemed so much happier and much more relaxed. She settled in straight away and she rules the house these days and seems to have everybody wrapped around her little paw! She is still very quiet and reserved but we don't really know what her history is. She has adjusted to having one eye extremely well. When she came to live with us she never played and was extremely anti-social with other dogs, she has learned how to play now and is getting better with other dogs too which is great!

The highlight of my day is walking through the door and being greeted by a wagging tail and a very happy face!

The photo below shows a shot of her at the shelter just after she had her eye surgery, the second photo is from a few months ago!

We cannot thank the staff at AAPS enough for bringing Leila into our lives! She is very loved and will hopefully be with us for many, many years to come.

Farley

Just sending an update of Farley the 5 year old black and white cat who his doing extremely well; he gets along with Riley and they enjoy playing with each other.
He is eating well and is very smoochy and loves cuddles.
He enjoys my (Roz's) bed more than anything and the scenery outside from my room window. He just sits at the window and watches the plants and bugs outside.
Here is a photo of Farley :)

Attached is a picture of Tess we adopted almost 41/2 years ago. We could not of asked for a better dog, she is loving, obedient, doesn't bark or dig. Thank you and your team for a wonderful job you do down there. We have also adopted a cat as well from your shelter.

Regards, Luke
