Barney
Just thought I'd give you an update on where 'Logan' is at now.
We adopted 'Logan' (renamed Barney) back on 31st May. He's an incredibly fun loving young lad who is well and truly king of his new domain.
We discovered early on that Barney is quite the inside dog - he instantly took to the bean bag and found himself a teddy to snuggle up with. He also loves a game of fetch with his favourite 'moo-cow' and has so far destroyed 3 just like it!
A couple of weeks ago we headed to the beach and suspect this may have been a whole new experience for him. Unusually for a lab, he shows absolutely no inclination to swim and is perfectly content to just splash around in the shallows. He's still a bit strained on the lead but is steadily getting better and will do virtually anything we ask if he knows there's a food reward in it for him!! We've discovered a couple of behavioural quirks and still have some work to do before those are sorted out.

Your welfare coordinator was concerned that Barney wasn't going to get along with my parents' dog (a St Bernard) who regularly visits, but as you can see from the photo they are now great mates. Poor Barney hasn't got a chance at tug-of-war but it never stops him trying!
We came to the shelter to meet another dog you were holding at the time, but we're truly glad we went home with Barney. He's happy, healthy and very well loved indeed.

Summer
I adopted Summer in April this year. As soon as we got home Summer raced round the house inspecting every inch and immediately made herself at home. Summer is addicted to cuddles and likes to jump on me as soon as my alarm goes off in the morning. Despite the language barrier she sure does seem to talk a lot.

I adopted Sandy a few weeks later. I was worried as I was told Sandy didn’t like to associate with other cats and kept to herself… there was a little stand off for a couple of hours when Sandy was first introduced to Summer but it didn’t last long. Sandy worships Summer like a big sister and follows her around the house. They have completely different personalities. Summer is a little serious, independent, likes cuddles and sleep a lot, Sandy likes to play non stop, amusing herself if no one will play with her and is driven by food rather than cuddles.
I’ve never had cats before but I am so glad I adopted them, they are such characters and I look forward to seeing them at the end of each day.
Kind Regards
Opal

Monty
First of all, thank you so much for okaying us to adopt this fabulous cat! He is just such a character & such a sweet little being. We can't believe that anyone would adopt him 4 years ago & then surrender him again! No judgement but thank God he had your wings to climb back under.

Monty was a little frightened on the way home in the car but we talked to him all the way home. We let him out of his box & I kid you not, 2 minutes later he was purring & smooching! 10 minutes later he was eating, so we knew he would be ok. He was the happiest little chap & thought he had hit the jackpot! About an hour or two later we thought we would introduce him to Peach the dog. Monty was horrified! As far as he was concerned, he had been well and truly conned & wondered why these apparently sane people would deem to have this horrible hound in the house! 48 hours later the above photos were taken! I wouldn't say Monty is 100% yet but tonight he has approached Peach several times for a bit of nose sniffing & there hasn't been a hiss heard. We are obviously still keeping a very close eye on them & it will be a very long time before they are left alone together but the future is looking very rosy. We thought you would like to hear some good news & to see some success photos. We are chuffed to pieces with him & I think he is with us. If the purring & talking is anything to go by he feels he has finally found his people (& hopefully dog!) to spend the rest of many happy years with!
So, thank you for giving us this opportunity to have this great beast live with us & thank you for giving all of the animals we saw at the weekend a place of peace & hope for a happy future. We were really touched by your dedication to matching the right people to the right animal & by how content, non-anxious, clean & cared for all the animals at the shelter were. I am sure little animal angels will great you all with much love through the gates of Heaven one day!
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts,
Tasha, Brad, Peach & Monty

Mischa
Just thought i would give you another update on Mischa! She has really come into her own, and actually even grown a bit since she's been with me! She's a beautiful cat who plays extremely well with my mums now, and she sleeps in the car on the way from geelong to mums and back again. She's my little companion who goes everywhere! I've just started her walking on a lead and she really enjoys her little trips outside!
Here are some photos for you to show everyone at the shelter!

Gin ( Ginger) & Tonic
Hi to all at AAPS from Gin ( ginger) & Tonic ( black & white) ( previously Tammy Girl & Milo ). We just wanted to let you all know that we haven’t disappeared off the planet! We chose our new mum earlier in the year when she came in to look at dogs!
We love our new home on a farm in the country, where we can watch lyrebirds, lots of other native birds, possums, wallabies & kangaroos from inside on some of our favourite seats.
I’m Tonic ( black & white) & I really love jumping in the handbasin when Mum goes to wash her hands, so I have trained her to not have vases full of flowers, unless they are big and heavy!
We love snuggling & also the odd sibling battle!
We also love our scratching posts and grass that mum periodically goes and digs up from out in a paddock somewhere. We have made lots of hideaways in all sorts of places, which we discovered when we first moved. We took a little while to get used to living in a house with 2 pianos and lots of visitors, but now we love all the company and extra pats!
Must go & have another snooze!

Thank you so much to all our Uncles & Aunties for looking after us while we camped briefly with you!

Buddy
Just wanted to drop you all a line to let you know that Buddy (7mo Heeler x JRT who was known as Patch at the shelter) has already become part of the furniture. We adopted him about a month ago, and he has already fallen in love with our 2yo kelpie x ridgeback Ruby, and 7yo cat Jassie. Jassie remains queen of the household and ignores the dogs, while Ruby is a close 2nd - apparently the ladies run the house! Buddy is quite happy to chase both of them until they let him know to stop, and then chase them some more, perhaps chew on Ruby's leg a little.... He's a bundle of energy.

Buddy LOVES the water - the beach and wetlands near our house are just the greatest apparently! He follows Ruby anywhere she goes - except in the water he will paddle out to where she can't reach him because she won't swim :) He loves his frisbee, but would rather just chase Ruby and try to herd her back to us while she's chasing hers.
They spend a considerable amount of time cuddled in the corner on their mats (well, usually both on Ruby's) when they aren't at the park of at training together. It feels like we've had him forever, and we look forward to a long future with him.
Thanks! Leah

Tama and Sachi
I adopted Tama and Sachi (previously known as Poppy and Penguin) in September this year. Its been 3 glorious months and we are a very happy family. They have settled into their new home beautifully and absolutely rule the roost. They love nothing more than being outside with mum – especially when she is gardening or simply reading the paper in the sun. They talk constantly and are such tremendous company – playing constantly, always checking to see what ‘mum’ is up to. I have recently learned that Tama is part Egyptian Mau – which explains her love of water, constant ‘chortling’ and playing fetch. Sachi is my beautiful cuddly flopsy baby, she just loves to hug and smooch especially late at night. They are the light of my life and the joy they bring every day is unquestionable. Thank you for looking after them before they found their home with me.

Mia
Hi to everyone at the Keysborough Animal Shelter
In April 1997 we were fortunate enough to adopt our beautiful collie/kelpie, Mia. She was 9 months old and had been roaming the streets when she was picked up and transported to the shelter. When my then boyfriend (he's now my hubby) went to the shelter to find our first dog together we were attracted to this black and white skinny kelpie who kept trying to shake our hands through her fence. She was fairly timid, but I could see that she had a lovely nature. We had to wait 8 days before we could pick her up and we had a tough time getting her into my car as she had never been in one. Well over the years she has been there for the birth of our three girls whom she adored and they in return, she got all the way to the top of the class at obedience school and was a truly wonderful companion to us all. Two years ago she was diagnosed with cancer, but it was a fairly slow growing tumour, but inoperable. Unfortunately in the last few months the cancer spread to her lungs. We had to say goodbye to her forever last Wednesday, but she is at peace now and free from pain. My girls say that she is playing with Jarrah (my Mum and Dad's dog who passed a year ago) in Doggy Heaven. To all of you wonderful people at the Keysborough Animal Shelter, we thank you for giving up the opportunity to share our lives with such a special and beautiful soul.

Sasha
Little Sasha (Pom cross) was adopted today and he and his brother Cedric (Staffy cross x Jack russell) have been fantastic since arriving home.Even allowing Sasha to take a quick grab of his bickies from his bowel. It has been a long day for the little man, so he is finding it quiet soothing lying on my boyfriend in front of the fan watching tv.
Thank you again for allowing us the privilidge of owning such a gorgeous little man.
We will keep you updated on his progress, it is only day one so fingers crossed all works out well.
Cheers
Mandi

Bert & Ernie
On the 7/11/09 we came to the Animal Shelter looking for two new members to add to the Davey family, we were successful when we met two grey and white tabbies aged 16 weeks old. It only took them about a day to become comfortable with the new surroundings. They love running around the house with the table tennis balls and their toys.
They also love cuddling up to us when they are tired. They are affectionate as they jump all over us not even knowing what they want. We just love their company and wouldn’t have it any other way.
From the Davey Family.

Kosmos
|
I was just reading on the web page, the different stories that people sent to you about their adopted pets from the Keysborough animal shelter and just had to let you know that we are so happy that we adopted our dog from your shelter .
Kosmo ( we named him) was 11 weeks old when we bought him home in 2007; he is 3 years and 4 months old now .A border collie X kelpie black and white in colour. The number on his yellow tag when we bought him was 24626
and what a beautiful ..gorgeous and intelligent dog he really is.
He was rather shy or timid when we first spotted him at the shelter and he had just had a desexing operation and still had his stitches in so we bought him home carefully and and he was doted on and loved immensley from day one..spoilt is probably the right word to use now..but how couldn't we spoil him..?..he was such a great dog..an incredible dog!.
Once he got to know us and how much we loved him ..a sweeter dog you just could not find anywhere in the world..we love him so much ! and he brings us so much joy !
He has a fabulous disposition.. a beautiful natured dog and we taught him to be gentle with kids and other people..so naturally , everyone loves him and kids just adore him! .. he has so much character and a rather dignified look about him now..we just can't help but adore him..we tied an old boot to a gum tree with rope when he was little and he just loved grappling with and swinging on that boot ..we play fetch ball with him and take him for walks he loves to go in the car.
He sleeps in our bedroom on his own special mattress near our bed ..but for the first 6 to 8 months he slept at the end of our bed near our feet and he was quite comfortable there..until we thought that it was time for his own bed..hha!
He has his own soft toys (what's left of them that is) as he just loves to get to the stuffing inside and has fun tossing the toys and getting us to play. he eats regular dry and tinned dog food but we do tend to spoil him often with lovely lamb bones and the occassional people food he just loves people food!!.. like beef stew and roast chicken....he also gets lovely liver treats and dog biscuits ..I even make my own special dog biscuits for him once a month ..he is a great dog ..I have taught him to sit at the front door when the postman arrives ..then I give him a letter and tell him to run and give it to bob..he runs to bob and drops the letter at his feet and then runs back to me for his treat ...he's so smart and learns quickly. he has a lovely garden to run around in and just loves to try and catch the possums we have here.
We have taken him back to the shelter for his yearly injections and his worming tablets and he is due to come back again for his next injection.I really wanted to find out about his history ..but forgot to ask why he was in the shelter in the first place ?..I'd love to know where he came from was he a local..?..and why he was left at the shelter in the first place..? maybe you could find out for me. I'd appreciate it very much.
I could never ever give up our dog Kosmo ..!..he is the best thing that ever happened to us as a family..we haven't had a dog for about 20 years ..so having kosmo around has brought back a lot of laughter and happiness to us.. he gives to us as much as we give to him!! we had missed that love and comfort of having a friendly dog around the house so much ...kosmo is as much a part of this family as any of the people here and I just wanted to say how glad we are that we have him in our lives...a gorgeous truly loving and loved pet he is.
regards from catherine and robert
thanks again and so glad we found him there at the shelter. |

Dexter
Well blimey where do I start! Firstly a huge thank you to all the staff at the Keysborough adoption centre particularly Lynette. I adopted a Roddi x Lab pup 2 weeks ago and haven't looked back since. I called him Dexter and what a bundle of energy he is. He has gotten over his kennel cough and snotty nose, has gained weight and settled in so well. He's not the boss of the house although sometimes he tries, the cats rule! He's an active little fella - loves his daily walks down the beach and has now learnt to swim. Thoroughly enjoys playing with other dogs - the bigger the better. We've started puppy school (he's the biggest pup there!!) and he can now sit, fetch and come - always loves to please.
He's still getting used to different noises and smells - kids on bikes are still a mystery so we sit outside a local school every evening to try and desensitise him. He's now house/tiolet trained after a few initial accidents. He's just an adorable little fella who loves lots of cuddles and tug of war games. I'll keep you updated. Once again thank you.

Bonnie

I adopted Bonnie (formerly known as Cameo) a year ago and thought I’d let you know how she’s going.
I fell in love with her when I saw her advertised on your website but when I went to meet her she showed aggression every time I walked up to her pen, you convinced me to spend some time with her in one of your courtyards and I have gotten nothing but smiles and love from her since.
I am fortunate enough to live on Phillip Island near the “off leash” beach where Bonnie enjoys stalking seagulls, swimming or just sitting at my feet as I try to catch some calamari.
In February I enrolled her at Wonthaggi Dog Obedience Group where she has excelled, she won 2 blue ribbons at the fun day in May, participated in a display at the San Remo Pet Expo in October and she has just been passed into the highest level.
Thank you for convincing me to spend time with her in the courtyard, I nearly passed up the opportunity to have this wonderful dog in my life. Regards, Floris |
Chester & Buddy
We adopted Chester our lovely big affectionate putty cat from Keysborough in 2006......he was 3 years old at the time and when I spent 2 hours with him and he gave me the best hug I knew he was coming home with us. Whilst he spent the first day or so hiding from us, he soon ruled the house and now sleeps on the bed with us. He talks all the time and loves cuddles and scratches around his ears. He was formerly a bit of a lap cat but now likes to explore the outdoors during the day.
We had been back and forth to Keysborough Shelter looking for a Beagle, a dog we had researched and knew we wanted to find. In September 2008, we were delighted to find an adorable but obviously very frightened Beagle called Buddy at Keysborough. The poor little tyke had had a hard time previous to coming to the shelter. With lots of love, training and reassurance our Buddy boy has become more self assured and our lives changed for the better with him as our new addition to the family. My husband and I have both lost weight walking the energetic one. Since we adopted him, Buddy has been on holidays with us 3 times and loves the beach. He has enjoyed all his holidays but didnt like it when a Swan tried to bite him at the Paynesville foreshore ( see photo Buddy Xmas Holidays) At first he was frightened of the waves from the beach but he got used to them and enjoys a dip on a hot day. His favourite place is the Brighton dog beach. He can run and swim in a fully enclosed beach with other dogs and has so much fun.. He occasionally gets frightened by strange noises so we need to reassure him when that happens.
Chester orders Buddy around and Chester will let Buddy play with him when he feels like it. When he is tired he gives Buddy this bored look and walks away.
Buddy and Chester have just moved with us into a big 1/4 acre property. Buddy cant believe the size of his backyard and Chester loves sitting in front of the fireplace and by the large glass backdoor with the sun beaming in.
Thanks so much Keysborough - Chester and Buddy have enriched our lives !! We are thinking of getting a companion for Buddy so we might see you again soon.
Melissa and Andrew
