Hello to all my friends at A.A.P.S., as you know my name is Honey and l came into the shelter in a bit of a state indeed.
I had to have some teeth removed and a lump removed as l had breast cancer......Yes l know pretty sad.....
WELL not anymore, l have a new lease on life. I have 3 big brothers, Riley ,Danny and Russel. Mum taught me to play and fetch the ball,, she regrets this at times l'm sure as l can do this till l become annoying. hehehe
You never know what life deals out, especially to us animals, but l'm sure glad that l am young enough to enjoy the rest of my life very much loved...

Scarlet
On Tuesday I adopted Scarlet...she has settled in 100% already destroyed a few toys and is learning to sit on command and has settled right down. She has been snoozing under the lemon tree when its hot but as soon as I got to the back door she is right there ready to play. Thankyou :)

Millie
Seven years ago we adopted a cat from AAPS. She didn't have a name, just a
number. We called her Millie. She is now 8. We also have a 6 year old
miniature dachshund (who she adores) and a 1 1/2 year old ginger cat Red.
Millie thinks life was better before he came along, but Red thinks she is
fabulous and worships the ground she walks on.
Millie is just as beautiful & sweet as the day we got her & we thought you
would like to see a picture. She has the most beautiful green eyes.

Toby and Stephanie
I adopted Toby and Stephanie October last year. I was advised that Steph had dry eye and Toby a flea allergy. I was hesitant, not because I didn’t want them; because I was not sure I would be a good “mum”.
Well I can tell you they have changed my life. They are like little people : )
I love coming home to them as they are so excited to see me. Attached is a picture when I asked them “time for a walk?”They love their walks, the beach and car rides…Thank you so much for allowing me to adopt these beautiful treasures….
Kind Regards
Nicole

Wiley RIP
I recently adopted a dog Missy (formerly known as 'Hazel') from your Keysborough shelter. She had heartworm but was treated by the vet and is recovering well now. This email is not about her. Prior to Missy there was another, Wiley. It has been sometime since he was at the shelter but I thought you may like to hear about him. Thank you for all the work that is done for these animals. Both Wiley and Missy have changed our lives.
Over 14 years ago I adopted a dog from the Keysborough Shelter. He was a border collieX puppy (10 weeks old), we named him Wiley. From the first day we was energetic, vibrant and a little mischievous. He was always first to the door to greet you and quick to your side when there was food on offer, he never missed an opportunity. Wiley was apart of our family, he could sense when something was happening and would sneak in to be apart of the action. He spent his days outside sunbaking, arguing with the neighbours dogs and patrolling the borders. At night he was great company and enjoyed his belly rubs. When at home you were never alone, there was always Wiley. Even in old age (retirement) he remained loyal and by your side.
He was a member of our family and much loved. Unfortunately, a couple of weeks ago he peacefully passed away in the company of his pack. He had a contented happy life as an important part of our pack. We will miss you Wiley.

Charlie
We adopted Charlie last November, after a trip to the beauty parlour we nearly didn't recognize him, what a difference a haircut makes. Charlie is such a loving dog, he loves cuddles, car rides & walks, we love him so much thank-you.

Tippy & Spot
On Xmas Eve we adopted two kittens. Tippy (tip on his tail) was already named and we named his friend Spot. Have settled in well and are forming a close bond as can be seen when they are sleeping. Mum, dad and two girls
are all enjoying their playfulness and we are all getting into a routine.
Even have a roster for litter duty! Here's to a long, happy and healthy life for these two boys!

Max
Max joined our household Australia Day weekend 2008 and has been a joy all the 2 years.
Max had spent nearly 6 months at the shelter in 07-08 and apparently had Nicky prayed that day that he would be collected.
He was my husband’s last gift to me before succumbing to cancer. Max is now giving his love and attention to me and I am so glad.
He is the dedicated master of a large leafy garden, a family of magpies and a roomy air-conditioned house.
May many animals find lucky owners this Australia day weekend.
Regards, Elisabeth

Junior
I was adopted at the end of December. My name used to be Kip (I am the one without a tail), but my name now is Junior (named by a 6 year old!).
I am very happy in my new home and have all the humans well trained now. I love to be brushed and have my tummy rubbed. I also like to be outside, and pat my main human on the face at about 5.30 every morning so she can get out of bed and unlock the cat door for me. When she was on holidays, she told me I could wait a bit longer. Some people are quite unreasonable! I have sent a picture of me drinking from my favourite water bowl. Can you imagine, birds sometimes swim in it?
I hope you are all well and that you find good homes soon.
Love from Junior and his staff.

Benjii
Back on the 31st July 2009 we adopted a little dog from you animal shelter. We named him Benji. He is well loved & enjoys chasing his soft toys & balls around. He loves playing with Maddison & Cooper & looks forward to when they come home from school so he can play fetch. He has changed our life. Benji is a loving dog, he loves cuddles, car rides & walks, we love him.
Kind Regards, Anthony & Melissa

Donny
Donny has been with us for two weeks now. He has settled in like this was always his home. He has two companions, a cat and a dog. But hey, who cares about animal companions when you have a human one? He's my shadow. Always following me around ready to accept love and give love. Considering his large size it is such a bonus that he is a placid well trained dog who loves walks and socialising. I'm sure that we'll see more of his personality come through as time passes, as he becomes more confident in his new home. Initially I was a bit worried about his size but now after two weeks I know he was the right choice.

Bubbles
| We adopted beautiful Bubbles on Wednesday and she has settled in as if she has lived here her
whole life. She has been enjoying smooching around and exploring the whole house. I know
many of you were sad to see her go as she had become apart of your family. We feel very
appreciative to have adopted Bubbles and bring her now into our family. Here is a photo of our
beautiful Bubbles relaxed in her new home :) Thank you.

Ivy
We lost our gorgeous girl Dana suddenly to cancer on 31/5/2009. We still had her shelter 'sister' Scully and didn't want her to pine, so set about looking for a friend for her. We did the rounds of all the shelters but didn't find a suitable companion.
We went to AAPS and had looked at all the dogs, but still couldn't find anyone suitable. Just as we were about to drive home, my partner, Chris, said he needed to go back in to the toilet, as it was about an hours drive home. When he came back out, he was very excited and said that there was a sweet looking dog who had been out walking when we first looked through, who was now back in her pen. So we went back in and took Scully in with us to make sure they liked each other. We spent another hour there, getting to know each other and decided that we would adopt this dog. Chris named her Ivy. She had only been at the shelter for 4 days, so had to stay her legal amount of time and then be desexed. All week I thought I was going to get a call to say she had been claimed, but that didn't happen. So we officially adopted her on 10/06/09. It was extrememly hard for us to immediately accept Ivy as we were grieving so much over losing Dana, so it took some time. She wormed her way right into our hearts and is the sweetest, friendliest girl you could ever want. She loves everything and everybody. We've had her for 8 months now and couldn't imagine life without her.

Dodger
Hi it was 6th of February 2010 that we fell in love with Dodger. We have been visiting the shelter for 12 months or so waiting for Mr or Miss Right! After looking at Bella and spending time with Roxy Annabella introduced Mum and me to a Foxhound ( what do they look like?) His floppy ears ,sad eyes and gentle nature won us over instantly. We put him on hold and came home to get Dad and my one of my brothers. After a walk, run and lots of cuddles Dodger became part of our family
He has been a good boy, learning the rules, playing with new toys, watching golfers go by, sat through the thunder storm, watching the boys play cricket and meeting lots of new friends. We affectionately call him `The Dodge from Dingley!’ Thanks for finding Mr Right!

Molly & Willis
A big hello from former residents Molly & Willis. We love our new home and our owners Kerry & Andrew. Kerry & Andrew would like to send you a big thank you for finding us two of the best woofa’s in town.
We came in your doors on 2nd January 2010 – heartbroken at the sudden loss of our Blue Heeler Crawford. An afternoon was spent meeting and greeting all the dogs, the wonderful staff took great care of us.
On this day we met Molly – 4 year old Blue Heeler Cross – she won over our hearts, the next day we returned and adopted Molly.A little over a month later we were back, this time on the lookout for a buddy for Molly. We met Willis – 7 month old Shepherd Cross – he won over our hearts also. More importantly Molly and Willis loved each other. We are very happy to report that we are one big happy family. Your great work has made two happy hounds and two happy humans. Thank you. Your tireless passion to re-home animals who have found themselves homeless is inspirational and we will be forever grateful that you brought Molly and Willis into our lives.

Prince
My son got me this beautiful black sleek cat from your shelter about a year ago. He was very shy at first and didn't come out from under the bed for about a week. He would come out to eat or drink but as soon as he heard foot steps, back under the bed he went. His name was Boris when we got him but we have renamed him Prince. He very much suits his name.
Due to my ill health, I have passed Prince on to my grandaughter who fell in love with him the moment she saw him. He sleeps on her bed, on her floor or when she stands up, he sits where she had been sitting. He is very devoted to her. When my grandaughter has friends over of if her boyfriend is over for the night, Prince gets very jealous. He will sit by the bed and stare at whoever is in "his" place. That is part of his charm. As you can see from the photo, he is very content sitting on the furniture.
Rescuing him has been one of the best things our family has done. He is very much loved and adored. We are more then happy to have him a part of our family.

Cinder
| Thought I'd drop you a quick mail letting you know what sort of life one of your rehomed dogs has had.
We picked up Cinder on 16-Feb-2002 from the Keysborough Animal Shelter when we were living in Elwood. He was a very friendly and very large (>43kg!) Labrador of unknown age and background. We guessed he was about 2-3 years old. Cinder settled in immediately - very placid about the house, quite mad and a bit of handful when out for a walk. I had to wade in to the water at the Brighton dog beach on numerous occasions in order to make home before nightfall! We got to know the vet quite well as a result of jumping of sea walls, trying to eat puffer fish/jellyfish, etc. In short, walks with Cinder were never dull and we enjoyed them enormously (mostly).
We returned to the UK in 2003. Thanks to the pet passport scheme, I was able to collect Cinder the morning he arrived in London. He was quick to settle and enjoyed the countryside around Bath - chasing pheasants, squirrels, etc. In fact, Cinder was happy to settle anywhere we went and would be the first in the car whenever we went anywhere, not wanting to be left behind.
The picture shows Cinder playing with our eldest son a couple of years ago. He was very good with both our boys - a little wary at first but always very gentle, even when pinching food out of their hands.
We moved down to the south coast of England a year ago and again, Cinder was quick to settle and enjoyed having the New Forest on the doorstep. Unfortunately, we sensed something was wrong last April and the vet diagnosed him as having a bone tumour in his jaw. His fortitude throughout the last year was an inspiration - no change in character, always happy to see you and keen to go for a walk right to the end. The vet gave him 3-6 months but in Jan '10 (after 9 months) we called it a day after a one last walk round the New Forest.
We had a fantastic 8 years of fun and companionship with Cinder. We certainly miss him but I like to think he lived a full and happy life.
Regards,
Patrick

Daisy
| Hi, thanks for all your good work, here's my little story about daisy:
I adopted Daisy, (aka Scotty Girl) just before Xmas 2009. She's an 11 year
old aussie terrier, but our local vet had to check her records before he
believed it! She loves her new big backyard, and we go for a very brisk
walk either to the park or the beach every day, so her tail is constantly
wagging. She's made fairly good friends with the cat, and has wonderful
manners. I love having her around, she's a great little pup and a loyal
friend. What a pleasure.

Maggie
We adopted Maggie nearly two weeks ago,as we had lost our little dog Tess after 16 years. Our other dog Brodie was very down ,as she and Tess had been together for about 10 years.
Maggie settled right in straight away, she is off the lead already and is loving her new home.
Daily walks down the beach or in the wetlands for a walk and swim.
She and Brodie are getting along fine,as they are both about 10 years old.
Maggie has brought new happiness into ours and Brodie's life.
She is a wonderful dog. Thank You. John

Evie
Evie (formerly Bonnie) has settled in wonderfully. She is doing great in dog school and enjoying running in the paddocks and swimming in the creek with our parents dog ‘Ella’ when we visit in the mornings.
She is very well behaved inside so on cold days we let her stay inside while we go to work, she loves taking naps on our bed while we’re at work, needless to say we have lots of old sheets covering everything! The picture I’ve attached shows her regular routine before bed, cuddling Mum on the couch before Dad carries her to her own bed (next to ours). Our big baby!

Fletcher (RIP)
I adopted my baby, Fletcher, a few years ago from the AAPS. I asked for a dog that was perfect for kids, and i got a knowing smile in return, and the name "Fletcher."
This gorgeous Australian kelpie changed our lives. I have never known a dog like him, or even slightly like him. I can't believe his previous owners threw him away. Their loss, as, Fletcher was our everything. He was my best friend, a counsellor, a nanny, a comedian, my shadow, with a kong in his mouth. He was just a little ball of pure life, and happiness.
He'd dance with his paws on my chest to ;Cherry, Cherry' by Neil Diamond and howl "HEEEEEEERRROOOOO!!!" when ever anyone came home. Fletcher the shelter dog had a family, he was Fletcher Douglas, and he was loved.
Sadly he got very sick about a month ago, and despite countless visits to vets, and specialists and animal hospitals , I had to end his battle for him. I tried so very hard for him, and he did for me. That little black kelpie that nobody else wanted, was such a beloved member of our family, I can barely describe it.
Thank you so much for introducing me to such a perfect little soul. He is missed very much, but we wouldn't change a minute for the world.
I was, honestly, blessed to be his human.

Bandit and Sniper
Thought I’d give you an update on our adoption – you knew them as the red heelers Ben & Deefus (the deaf dog). They’ve been renamed Bandit (for his black facemask) and Sniper (because he likes to lie in ambush and pounce out from under the table).
I could not be happier with how things are going they are both the most affectionate dogs and they get along so well together you would think they’d been together so much longer than two weeks.
They play and wrestle and chase each other. Both will encourage the other by bouncing and rolling to get the attention.
Bandit is a sensational dog. He is so affectionate and wants nothing more than to be near you or go off for a run then come back and sit with you. Sometimes he wants more sleep but Sniper wants to play so poor Bandy gets nibbled at until he’s prepared to wrestle.
Sniper is an extremely intelligent dog and has already become familiar with several hand signs.
He gets very easily excited by other dogs, shadows, reflections, moving objects and he is a true heeler (does especially like anything with wheels that moves– bikes, lawnmowers, wheelie bins) but he has already calmed considerably since we’ve been going out and I see great potential in him as he gets past puppy phase.
Of course, despite the new toys, and because he is a still a pup he has had a great time chewing his way across the yard. Surprising how you forget the variety of tastes a pup may have when you’ve had older dogs for a while. No drastic losses just a few small sacrifices (plastic watering can, furniture covers, broom, etc) although I’m sure Bandit gives him a hand at times to take their bedding out for an airing !!)
Anyway I’ve attached a couple of photos and some video so you can check out how they’re going.
Thanks so much the three of us are extremely happy
Karyn

I am writing to give you all an update on Timmy, the beautiful silver and black tabby who came to live with me 2 weeks ago.
He is very comfortable in his new home, particularly in my bedroom which is his favourite spot. He alternates between sitting on the bed and under the bed, but comes out to explore a bit further afield at night when he visits the lounge room and kitchen.
While he might be a bit shy at times, he is very affectionate when he wants a pat. If I'm not home he runs down the hall to visit my housemate instead.
He has a new name, Alfie, and is much loved.
Thanks for helping me find him, he's bringing me a lot of happiness.
Kind regards,Kate

Chiwa
Just like to send an update on my best mate Chiwa...
I found him when I was having a browse on your website. I went down to shelter and spoke with Lynette expressing how I'd fallen in instant love with Chiwa by her pic, met her and loved her even more! I was pregnant and had terrible morning sickness and Chiwa was by my side the whole time.
I think when she first came to live with us on our small farm she had never seen cattle and horses and was a bit frightened but now she cruises around in the paddock with them without a worry!
She is the sweetest little girl and we are so lucky to have her! She is a lot plumper than when she came home; all her skin has heal. She has a beautiful shiney coat and we all love her to bits including our 10 week old son who Chiwa just adores!
Thanks again for letting me adopt my beautiful little friend and know that she is my angel and adored.
Jo, Justin and baby Rain xoxo
