Hello,
Well I know this is a bit late in the piece, but I adopted my dog, now known as Harry (a border collie cross – tag number 11482), from AAPS when he was 8 weeks old as a pup. He was one of about 9 and was in a pen on his own and all his brothers and sisters had been adopted. When I first looked at him I was told I may not be able to take him as he had kennel cough and there was a bit of uncertainty as to whether he would make it. The vet at the time advised that he would be ok and I was allowed to adopt him. He had to have some kids cough medicine on the tip of my finger for a few days and all passed well. He is now just over 8 years old and I was looking at the web site considering another dog (in the not too distant future) and saw this page and thought I would send a couple of pictures in of my handsome little man as he has brought so much happiness to my life and I wanted you to know he has a good home!
He is spoilt rotten (and so he should be) and I love him to bits!!!!
Cheers, Leigh

Hello,
I have been meaning to write for months now, and just haven't gotten round to it. We adopted two cats, Gypsy and Samur, from you just over a year ago (May 06). They have been the most wonderful addition to our household, and we don't know what we'd do without them now.
I remember that one of the women in the shelter was very attached to Samur (whom we have since renamed Romeo, since he is such a lover!), so I wanted to let her know that her big smoochie boy is still well and happy - except for the fact that he never thinks he gets enough dinner! It's a bit of a battle keeping him more or less trim - he is about 8kg now, though much of that is simply due to the fact that he is a HUGE cat! Big boned, and I'm not just saying that. Great for keeping one's lap warm in the winter, though - he stretches from knee to chest! He has been the most amazing, patient and laid-back companion to our 3-year-old son - I can't imagine another cat putting up with the things he does, from having hats put on him, to being covered with a pile of string, to being "picked up" (just the front half!) and "carried" around the house. When he's had enough, he either just gets up and walks away, or gives Jamie a gentle nip, as a mother cat would do to a kitten, to tell him to back off. We looked a long time to find a cat who we thought would be able to put up with the noise and chaos of a toddler, and it seems we hit the jackpot with Romeo. James loves him very much, and so do we.
Gypsy has kept her name, as we thought it suited her perfectly. She fits the type, and has a bit of the torti temper from time to time - we know if she's upset, as she will wee on the bath mat to communicate her displeasure! She was fairly reserved for the first couple of months, but she's since bloomed into a really lovely cat who will hop up on the bed or sofa for a cuddle and even gently paw at an elbow or knee if we're paying too much attention to the computer and not enough to her! She has the most gorgeous shiny coat and striking colouring - I think she's absolutely beautiful and enjoy her company immensely.
In short, you can chalk up another two success stories to your board. Gypsy and Romeo are beloved members of our family now, and we owe all of you many thanks for saving them for us. Keep up the good work!
Cheers,
Amanda Hayes

We first fell in love with Bruza (then Lucky) when we saw him on the AAPS website in December 2005. My partner and I had been wanting to add a young dog to our (soon to be) menagerie for a little while, looking at the shelter websites daily...then we found Bruza a 3mth old Dane X. We arrived before adoption hours 'just incase' and were soon invited in to meet him. Giant feet, tail and ears with an average sized body.there were paws everywhere haha! But so gentle, clever and desperate for affection. We couldn't resist that 'Scooby Doo' face, he was just what we were after!
When we first took him home he was greeted by our two young Orientals who we had got earlier that year as Kittens from the RSPCA. They're quite confident and Bruza was a little shocked by them at first but now he's the families' big defender. Not too long after we had got him, I was hanging washing in the yard, Bruza was sunning himself in the front room and the kittens were playing out the back. A large ginger cat had jumped our fence and started bullying the kittens who had no idea what was going on. Well before I could leap into action Bruza had heard their cries and flew out the back door, bailing up the ginger cat, and giving him a good barking to. That night he lay in front of the heater being cleaned by the kittens. We never had another strange cat in our yard again. We recently got another kitten, who only has three legs, she's his favourite and he always keeps a protective eye on her, just in case.
Now he has almost grown into those ears! He has excelled through his first few levels of obedience with Australian Dog Training. He's now in Level 6 and will soon be assessed for Level 7 (Advanced). About 6mths after we got Bruza another dog, Maccas, joined us by default.
Mac, an English Staffy who was about the same age as Bruza, had been neglected. Now they can't go anywhere without each other and just love playing ball together. Mac quickly learnt his manners by following Bruza's actions and attending Obedience school too. They're very sociable and are often faces of RSPCA events, recently going to the Puppy Vs Taxman promotions in Burke Street Mall with me. Soon he has his assessment to join the Delta Soceity visiting children in hospitals and comes into the office with me when I work late.
Also we recently tracked down one of Bruza's littermates (thanks to
Nicky) who was recently adopted from the AAPS too and they have been meeting up for puppy play dates etc which has been just wonderful!
Thank you so much for Bruza! I can't thank you enough for taking him under your wings or tell you how much he means to our family.
-Sarah, Tezz, Maccas and the Cats.

Colin (was Columbus at the shelter) is settling in well to our place. Frank has taken charge; there has been a few growls and a few teeth bared but no fights. Colin is a lover not a fighter; if Frank tells him off, he just walks away.
He is a quick learner and he knows which bed is his and he knows that is where he is supposed to be when he is inside. He comes when he is called (most of the time), but is still learning his name. He is even learning a few tricks like lie down, left and right paw and high five. We have also learnt a few things ourselves, like don't leave a whole large pizza on the kitchen bench unattended and make sure you take the recycling and rubbish out at night. All in all we (Frank included) are over the moon with our new family member.

Thought I'd drop you a line and let you know how Amber is getting on.
Firstly we can't believe that another family would let her get away! She is a beautiful, loving, gentle dog. It is like she has been with us forever! She absolutely loves my 3 girls and generally laps up all the attention they give her. Our 11 year old CollieX (Mia) has taken on the "mum" role and after having her nose a little out of joint for the first day or 2 she has accepted her.
She is highly intelligent and has already stopped pulling on the lead, heels, sits, shakes hands, dances and does all her doggy business outside. I don't think she would need obedience training for her behaviour, but I think it would be great to stimulate her mind and get some socialisation with other dogs.
She is following the lead of Mia which is great as she is a very well behaved dog. She loves to carry things around the house, especially teddy bears. We have purchased so many new toys for her that she didn't know which one to play with first. She loves getting the tit bits out of her "Kong". A big thankyou to all of you for making the transition easy and taking such good care of Amber. You all do such a wonderful job!!!! Here are some photos of her in her new life.

We just wanted to let you know that we are so happy with our newest member of our family.
Dizzy is the best friend and companion that we were looking for.
We adopted him in May and we have never been happier.
He is so clever, adorable and loving. We couldn’t imagine our lives without him.
Thank you for all the great work that you do at the shelter and thank you for looking after him and making it possible for us to meet him and adopt him.
For anyone still deciding about adoption - it’s the best thing we've ever done!
Kind Regards, Natalie and Dror Cohen
