DONATING TO OUR OP SHOPS

AAPS is a not-for-profit organisation, we receive no government funding. The ongoing costs for the animals that come in to our care depend solely on donations and the revenue from our OP Shops.

We accept donations of new and used household items including toys, games, books, small furniture, pet beds, toys, houses, carriers, leashes, cat scratchers/towers, kitchen wares, artwork, linen, clothing, shoes, bags & accessories.

All items must be clean and in fair condition to be able to be resold. Any items that are damaged, broken, or in need of repair cannot be sold; donating these items, no matter how good your intentions are, will cost the shelter money through rubbish removal costs. Please only donate items that are able to be re-used in their current condition. Donations can be made at any of our OP Shops, please see our list of locations and shop times.

VOLUNTEERING AT OUR OP SHOPS

Our OP Shops are viable because of the amazing volunteers we have and we are always happy to welcome more.  If you are interested in being involved with helping animals in need and would like to make a difference, some of the roles available at our OP Shops are:

  • sorting donations & pricing them

  • cleaning & stocking the store/shelves

  • customer service

If you would like to volunteer please fill in the volunteer application at the bottom of this page.

VOLUNTEER AT AAPS

CAN YOU SPARE SOME TIME?

Our volunteer team is one of the biggest assets to our shelter and provides essential assistance in caring for the animals our shelter houses. Without our volunteers, our shelter could not continue to save the thousands of animals we do every year. Volunteering is a rewarding experience and our animals are the ones who reap the benefits of our volunteer community’s generosity.

To volunteer, you need to be over 18 years old, willing to have an up to date tetanus vaccination and be able to commit to a minimum of 3 months rostered shifts. If you are under 18 you may be able to help in other ways. You could ask family and friends for donations of blankets, towels, or food for the animals or see our Support Us page for different ways you may be able to help.

We undertake recruitment for volunteers on a quarterly basis, or as positions become available. We recruit volunteers for various jobs and across many areas of the shelter. All volunteers undergo training and can further their skills and progress into higher responsibilities over time. Our volunteers are recruited into our level one program, with room to progress to a higher level with training and experience.

“Volunteers don't get paid,

not because they're worthless,

but because they're priceless.”
